Jordan North will take over from Roman Kemp as the host of Capital Breakfast Show.

The broadcaster, who was axed from BBC Radio 1 without the chance to say goodbye, was live on air on Wednesday morning where host Roman Kemp introduced Jordan to the Capital Breakfast audience, and said: “You are going to absolutely love this Jordan. I have so much faith in you mate. It’s hard leaving, it feels like your child, but you want it to go into good hands and I know with you it’s going to be just that. Everyone, send as much love as possible to Jordan.”

Roman Kemp announced he was stepping down earlier this week after 10 years with the station. As well as previously presenting drive for Radio 1, Jordan co-hosts hit podcast Help I Sexted My Boss!, had a hugely successful stint on I’m a Celebrity and is set to return for another season on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, this weekend on ITV1.

Jordan North, who will also host Capital’s Summertime Ball in June 2024, said: “I am beyond excited to be joining Global and to wake up the nation every morning on Capital - I can't wait to start working with the amazing team here and get stuck in, to create the most fun and entertaining breakfast show. Getting to host Capital Breakfast has always been a dream of mine and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I simply couldn’t turn down.”

After Jordan's abrupt departure from Radio 1 was announced, his former co-host Vick Hope took to Instagram to express her sadness at not being able to say a "proper goodbye".

She wrote: "Absolutely gutted, to be honest. Our @jordannorth1 you’re a true @bbcradio1 legend, a dreamy co-host, and an incredibly special friend. There are too many memories for these collages, but what a laugh we’ve had. Thank you for sharing your wit and your warmth; your stories, your skill and your spirit. Going Home with Vick and Jordan has been such a mad, chaotic ride, I’ve loved being on this journey with you for a little bit, and will always support and cheer for you as you embark on the next chapter. You’re about to soar, everyone is going to love you as much as we do, just please look after yourself there. And keep the tunes coming.

"I’m so sad we didn’t get a proper on-air send off, but I guess (inadvertently, accidentally appropriately) killing off Judge Jordan this week will have to do as a radio goodbye."

On Friday, Radio 1 announced that Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing would replace North on the drivetime show. Jordan, who had worked for Radio 1 for 10 years, released a statement thanking his listeners after the news of his exit was announced.

He wrote: "I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful colleagues / talented producers at Radio 1 who many I consider to be friends for life and will miss greatly." Jordan went on to thank his "amazing fellow presenters", including Greg James, Scott Mills, Clara Amfo and Hope. He added: "Most importantly, the biggest of thank yous to the fantastic listeners who have been really generous and always made me feel welcome, your kind words and messages have been so lovely."

On Jordan joining Capital, Chris Stark remarked: “I’m buzzing for this amazing opportunity to be reunited with Jordan on the radio again. Together with Sian, the three of us are so excited to bring you the new Capital Breakfast Show. It’s going to be a LOT of fun!”

Sian Welby added: “I can’t wait for Jordan to join Chris and I in the mornings! The Capital Breakfast show has always been about genuine friendship and honest conversation and that’s why I know the Capital audience are going to love Jordan in the same way they do Roman. He’s a normal down to earth, humble lad, who’s already part of our friendship group, so expect the same level of mickey taking and silliness. I want the listeners to welcome him with open arms, and treat him like they do us! Jordan has some of the most ridiculous true stories that I can’t wait for people to hear. It’s going to be a lot of fun! Strap yourselves in, it’s gonna be another wild ride!”
