Tottenham and South Korea star Son Heung-min has apologised for a tense showdown with international teammate Lee Kang-in that left him with a dislocated finger.

The two teammates were involved in bust-up earlier this month during Asia Cup duty. The clash occurred ahead of the nation’s elimination at the hands of Jordan.

It was reported that Son, captain of his nation, was angry that some younger players including Lee Kang-in, left a team meal early in order to go and play ping pong.

Son attempted to intervene, which led to a scuffle between the two players. Other teammates were then forced to separate the duo, although the Tottenham man came off the worst after sustaining a dislocated finger.

Now, the forward has opened up on the clash and apologised to fans. Taking to Instagram with a picture of him and Lee, he wrote: “Hello, this is Heung Min Son. Going to talk a little scary and difficult today. Kang-in sincerely reflected on himself and apologised to all the players on the team, including me.

“When I was young, I made a lot of mistakes and looked bad, but I think I can be where I am now because of the warm advice and teachings of good seniors. We will take special care of Kang-in to ensure that Kang-in does not do this wrong thing again, so that all of us players can grow as a senior and a captain of the national team.

“I also did well for my actions, I think it was an act that could be envied enough without thinking. However, I am of the opinion that it is one of the essence of the claim to act like that for the team, so I will act for the team even if I am put in the same situation again. But from now on, I will try to understand my teammates more wisely and wisely.

“Kang-in is having a hard time after that work. Forgive me with a grudge heart for once. Bam as captain of the team! I'm asking you to do this.

“And among the stories that come from one side, the content of the team's convenience is irrelevant and we have always tried to look at one place as a team.

“Although football is loved a lot, we sincerely apologise for causing such a fuss and we will work harder to make our Korean national team grow more this season. Once again, as the captain of the Korean national team, I sincerely apologise.”

Son’s apology comes a week after PSG midfielder Lee made his own statement. He also apologised after causing “great disappointment” to supporters. The 23-year-old also promised to “try to support the senior players and become a better player and person”.
