A mother and child have been killed after an Audi crashed into a car dealership.

The car crashed into a wall outside a Jaguar dealership on a busy road just outside Leeds city centre on Monday morning.

Emergency services were called to the Sheepscar area of the city at around 8.30am after reports of the smash.

Police believe the woman and child, who were found unresponsive at the scene, were pedestrians. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police confirmed to The Mirror they were a mother and child.

Both had been hit before the car crashed into the wall near the dealership and were tragically pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Detective Inspector Paul Conroy, of the force's Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident, and we are working to support the family of the woman and child involved.

“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses but are keen to speak to anyone else who has witnessed the collision itself or the events leading up to it.

"We would also ask anyone who was in the area around the time of this collision to check their dashcam footage.”

The major road remained closed and flanked by police vehicles on Monday afternoon as collision detectives carried out their investigation.

The Mirror understands the woman had been taking her child to school when they were hit.

Onlookers claimed the driver had been revving his engine at traffic lights before flying off down the road.

He had travelled little over 200 yards when he collided with the pedestrians before slamming the car into the wall of a car dealership.
