Woman accused of 'stealing ex's £1m Lotto winnings 'in misery' over fallout

A mum has hit back after she was accused by her ex of leaving him 'without a penny' of a £1million jackpot they won on a scratch card.

Charlotte Cox paid for the Lotto scratch card with her card at a Nisa in Spalding, Lincolnshire, in what was a last-minute decision while picking up a Friday night meal with partner Michael Cartlidge. But after the relationship ended 'out of the blue', Mike is now considering legal action for his share of the winnings when lottery chiefs Allwyn told him he wasn't entitled to a penny.

Charlotte, 37, paid for two tickets and scratched them herself, revealing their winnings. But Mike told The Sun it had been his idea to buy the card, and that he'd try to give Charlotte the money in the shop but the wire wouldn't go through because of a lack of reception, before the transfer later went through at home.

Now Charlotte has hit back at accusations she left Mike high and dry after walking out on their relationship while they were in the process of getting their winnings verified by former lottery chiefs, Camelot. She told The Sun: “I bought the ticket. He didn’t transfer me the money.

“It is all rubbish, I want nothing to do with it.” Sources close to Charlotte meanwhile insisted Mike had “no right” to the money as she ultimately paid. “One million pounds has never brought so much misery,” one person close to Charlotte told the title.

“It’s ruined the last three months for her and her family.” Another close source to her added: “You can’t believe a word that man says.

"This has ruined the last three months for her and her family. All over Christmas it has caused nothing but upset. Mike has no right to this money. He is not a nice person. Charlotte won, she paid for the ticket and she scratched the ticket. The case is closed.”

Mike has claimed former lottery organisers Camelot had launched an investigation over the dispute, looking at CCTV from the shop and interviewing them separately, and that he was under the impression the jackpot would be split halfway. But after Allwyn took over last month, he was sent a letter informing him he wouldn't get a penny.

“I know it was her bank account that paid for it, but it should go 50-50 morally,” said the security engineer. He claims Charlotte wouldn't have even bought the ticket without him.
