The Crown’s Matt Smith shares nickname from Prince Harry after he watched show
The Crown actor Matt Smith has revealed he shared a bonding moment with Prince Harry after the Duke watched him in the Netflix drama.
Matt, who appeared in the first two seasons of the hit Netflix drama as he played a young Prince Philip, explained that a chance meeting at a polo match saw Prince Harry make a cheeky comment referencing the series. Harry, who is the grandson of the Duke of Edinburgh, didn't waste the chance to joke with the actor about their family connection.
Whilst talking out on the polo pitch, Doctor Who actor Matt said Harry greeted him warmly as he said: "He was like 'alright grandad? I was like 'alright mate?'"

Matt revealed the sweet moment between the two men in his interview with the BBC, where he also revealed not everyone in his family was pleased to see him play the senior royal figure. He told the BBC: "I told my grandad I got the part and he went 'bloody hell you aren’t playing that berk'. My grandad couldn’t bear him. He wasn’t very into the royal family."
Bank of Dave self-made millionaire giving away money to 'keep kids working hard'Matt also revealed in another interview that Harry had confirmed to him that he watches The Crown, despite it not always going down well with the royal family. In an interview with TODAY, the Doctor Who actor said: "I can’t claim to know if he watches ('The Crown') currently, but he watched a bit of it then. I heard the Queen had watched it, and she used to watch it on a projector on Sunday night, apparently."
Recently, during his three day trip to Canada for the Invictus Games countdown, Prince Harry gave a bombshell interview to Good Morning America which is said to have soured his already strained relationship with the royal family. Asked about his relationship with his father and brother, the Duke replied: "Look I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him I'm grateful for that." When asked if the diagnosis could have a "reunifying effect" amid their feud, Harry said he is certain it will.
"Yeah, I'm sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together," he told the host.
Harry's GMA interview comes after he recently spent time in the UK to visit his father following the monarch's cancer news. The Duke of Sussex rushed to the UK from Los Angeles earlier this month and sat down for a half an hour chat with the King during his visit. It's believed this was their first proper private conversation for 15 months.
