A 15-year-old girl was killed by a pack of raging monkeys after they chased her down a dry well.

Sapna died while her sister Sadhna, 19, sustained injuries after the pair plummeted down the well while working on the terrace of their home in Nai Nagla, in India's Uttar Pradesh state on Saturday. Locals rushed to their aid and raced them to hospital, where Sapna died during treatment. Sadhna remains in intensive care, according to the Times of India.

Vijay Kumar, the chief of Sadar Kotwali police station, said: "The girl's family didn't file any complaint, and were not keen on the postmortem. Officials were informed about the incident." Shiv Kumar, the girls' father, who works as an e-rickshaw driver, called on local politicians to "capture the monkeys".

In November last year, 10-year-old Dipak Thakor had his intestines torn out by a merciless mob of monkeys outside a temple in India. Dipak was mutilated by the "notorious gang" of primates while playing with a pal at a temple in Salki, a small village in Gujarat. Both of the boys were attacked, but the monkey managed to dig its claws into the 10-year-old, which ultimately killed him. He was taken to hospital, but died before medics could help him.

Speaking to local media, an official said: "His intestine was ripped out in the attack. He rushed to his house and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival." The official reported that the monkey gang had been responsible for an additional two attacks in that same week.

In the same month, a man died after being attacked by a monkey who left him lying in a pool of his own blood whilst he used the toilet. Gutyappa Bin Rangappa was bit on the hand by the animal attacker whilst using the loo at his home in Arakere, a village in the Davangere district of Karnataka, India. The bite was so bad that it reportedly caused Gutyappa significant bleeding that eventually led to his death.

The 66-year-old was raced to hospital after the ape’s brutal assault but despite medics working on him, he was pronounced dead on Monday (November 13). Authorities said the killer monkey had been terrorising the area in the days before it ambushed Gutyappa and had also attacked another man who survived.

A huge manhunt was launched across the area with 30 people searching to bring the ape to justice. It managed to evade capture for two days after the killing but was eventually captured. The primate will now be sent to India’s Forest Department to be examined by vets.
