Prince Harry wants to bring his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the UK so they can spend time with their cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, despite the ongoing feud with his brother, Prince William, a source has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex moved to California with his wife Meghan Markle after stepping down as senior royals four years ago - and they are now based in Montecito with their two children. Archie and Lilibet have barely spent any time with their cousins based in England, as well as their grandparents, and according to a source Harry is keen to bring them to the UK for a while.

Harry made a brief visit to the UK to see his father, King Charles, last week following the news that he was diagnosed with cancer - but his wife Meghan and their two children did not join him for the trip as they remained in the US. However, things could change in the future if Harry manages to rebuild his relationship with the Royal Family, it has been claimed.

A source told OK! Magazine: "Harry wants to spend more time in the UK and bring the children over to be with their grandparents and cousins, but he will have to prove himself first. That's been made very clear to him."

And royal expert Jennie Bond said that one of the key driving forces behind pushing for a better relationship is for the sake of Archie and Lilibet. She explained: "Harry has spoken about wanting his children to understand their legacy and to feel equally at home in the UK as they do in America. By now, they must be proper little Californians with minimal understanding of their British heritage.

"Life events like this, though, focus the mind, and I'm sure Harry will be dwelling on the fact that his children have virtually no relationship with their paternal grandfather – or maternal grandfather – at the moment. Time and life are marching on, and scares like this will certainly make Harry think hard about the future."

However, the expert said there is no quick fix when it comes to Harry's strained relationship with his father. "We all hoped for some kind of fairytale reunion to come out of the shocking news that Charles has cancer, but life is not like that," she said. "These are complex family relationships that are not going to be resolved with the wave of a wand.

"It did seem extraordinary that Harry flew here, only to watch his father and Camilla leave for Sandringham. So what does this tell us? It underlines that a full reconciliation between father and son is going to need work. Charles was also tired after his first cancer treatment – which is to be expected – and that's another reason why the meeting was so short."

She added: "A health crisis like this is not the time to try to sort out family issues. The King needs to concentrate fully on his recovery. Stress is detrimental to recovery from cancer, so it isn't the right time to hash out all that has gone on between them."

It comes as Harry told Good Morning America host Will Reeve that he was "grateful" to see his father last week, adding: "Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I'm grateful for that."

When asked if the cancer diagnosis could have a "reunifying effect" amid their feud, Harry said he is certain it will. "Yeah, I'm sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together," he told the host. However, Harry refused to discuss his father's condition and said: "That stays between me and him."

Then, touching on possibly returning to his homeland of the UK soon, Harry told Will: "So my family and my life in California is as it is. I have got other trips planned. That would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so you know, I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can."
