'After Sunak's latest by-election blows we have to say - general election now'
Voters tired of Tory rule
The message to PM Rishi Sunak from the Wellingborough and Kingswood by-elections could not be clearer. Like the rest of the electorate, the voters in these two seats have had enough of this tired, tin-eared and incompetent Government and are desperate for the change that Keir Starmer’s Labour is promising. No amount of Tory spin can hide how disastrously their party performed in what were previously two safe Conservative seats.
The swing to Labour in Wellingborough was the second largest to an opposition party since the Second World War. If replicated at a general election the Conservatives would be annihilated. The scale of the drubbing dished out is a reflection of the anger at the way they have driven Britain into the ground during their 14 years in power. What will it take for Mr Sunak to realise the country wants a general election now?
Vlad’s a tyrant
We do not yet know the cause of Alexei Navalny ’s death but we do know he would still be alive were it not for the tyrannous actions of Vladimir Putin. Opposition leader Navalny had bravely challenged Putin’s repressive regime by standing up for democracy, freedom and justice.
For this, he was poisoned and then imprisoned on politically-motivated charges. He has now joined the ever-lengthening list of Putin’s opponents who have been assassinated or died in mysterious circumstances.
Navalny’s fate should shame politicians such as Donald Trump and Nigel Farage who have spoken of their admiration for Putin. As long as there are apologists for the Russian President he will continue to act with evil intent.
