Kourtney Kardashian praised a number of alternative pregnancy methods for helping her to conceive her son Rocky Thirteen Barker, but they've now been debunked by an expert.

The reality star, 44, welcomed her first child with husband Travis Barker back in November. The couple had experienced years of fertility struggles and initially turned to IVF to help. However, they stopped the treatment after Kourtney experienced negative side effects.

Instead, Kourtney praised alternative methods such as having 15-minute sex sessions, drinking sperm, and undergoing vaginal steaming. However, fertility expert Tracey Sainsbury has said it's unlikely these methods actually helped Kourtney to conceive.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, she said: "I believe Kourtney conceived naturally, sadly there isn't any evidence that alternative pre conception cleanses, steams, drinking semen etc, contribute to improved chance of conception." She added: "Vaginas aren't designed to be steamed."

Explaining how Travis and Kourtney managed to conceive after years of trying, Tracey said: "If there's a healthy egg, in the right place at the right time, to meet a healthy sperm, and the womb lining is receptive... then the magic can happen. Hence why couples can conceive after many years experiencing infertility."

Tracey said it's important for women to know "what is going on with your own fertility ahead of trying to conceive". Kourtney has previously opened up about her pregnancy experience after suffering heartbreaking fertility issues.

During an appearance on the Dear Media Studio podcast back in October, Kourtney revealed that she experienced many negative side effects after trying IVF. "My energy levels since starting that have been really down and still. I haven't done it since probably January or February and my energy levels are still really down," she said.

Kourtney later admitted that she felt like she was pressured into doing IVF. "I feel like we kind of got pushed into doing IVF and if you even look anything up online about 'things you can do to help get pregnant' it says on there like if you're over 40 or it might even say something younger.

"It says 'go right away to an IVF doctor.' So I felt a little bit pushed so we are, for now, done with IVF and we say prayers and hope that God blesses us with a baby," she explained.

Tracey Sainsbury is a fertility expert who spoke to The Mirror on behalf of femme health.
