BBC Radio 1's replacement for Jordan North hasn't gone down well with listeners.

It was announced that after ten years on the station, York-born Jordam would be stepping down from the network. In a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter, Radio 1 said: "Radio 1 will be saying goodbye to Jordan North. Jordan has been behind some of the most hilarious and entertaining moments on air over the years, and has been a constant source of inspiration for younger presenters. Thank you for everything."

Jordan, 34, has been a fan favourite over the years and has interviewed some of the biggest names in the world, including Prince William and Princess Catherine, alongside his co-host, Vick Hope. While Jordan has not yet commented on the news, his replacement has since been announced and listeners aren't too happy.

A spokesperson for Radio 1 said: "Jamie Laing will join Vick Hope to co-host Going Home on Radio 1 (15:30 – 18:00, Monday to Thursday), starting on Monday 4 March. Huge congratulations @JamieLaing_UK." Responding to the announcement, one enraged follower said: "No way this is who you replace Jordan with?! This is going to be insufferable driving home from work. Maybe it’s finally time to change station to one with better music."

"Is there no up-and-coming presenters that would of liked this opportunity, as opposed to an already rich celebrity? Poor form," said a second. While another went on to pen: "A funny show just got made unlistenable, poor Vick. If I was her I'd get out quick." "Looks like I’ll be switching stations at 15:30 then," wrote another.

Jamie had previously covered for former singer Mollie King who presents alongside Matt Edmondson. He said it was an "absolute dream" to land the job. "I've loved every minute that I've been on air with Radio 1 in recent years, so to be joining Vick on Drivetime is just incredible," he said. "I'm beyond excited to get started and keep listeners company on their journeys home."

Speaking about Jamie, the Head of Radio 1, Aled Haydn Jones said: "His infectious energy and love for music and culture will bring an exciting new element to Drivetime." Discussing Jordan, he added that he was an "amazing presenter and a valued colleague at Radio 1, and I'm so proud of his journey with us". He added: "He has always connected with the Radio 1 audience through his shows and projects, as witnessed by the huge amount of money raised for Comic Relief during his rowing trip from London to Burnley."

Jordan joined Radio 1 in 2014 as a freelance presenter and was often picked to stand in for Matt Edmondson. But in 2018 he was announced as the new host of the Greatest Hits Show airing each Sunday morning. While the was once dubbed Radio 1's "supply teacher", he also covered for Scott Mills and Nick Grimshaw.
