Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner has taunted police in his first comments ahead of a new trial, it has been reported..

The convicted paedophile will stand trial in a German court tomorrow accused of a string of offences against women and children in Portugal. Brueckner, 45, was also named as a suspect in Madeleine’s 2007 disappearance almost four years ago, but has not been charged with the crime.

He has hit out at prison guards and police in new statement before his trial, where he is accused of three rapes and two indecent assaults.

Speaking to the MailOnline about conditions in jail, he said: "I'm still not allowed to talk with anybody else than to my lawyer sand to my punishers (guards)." He also said mockingly of the charges against him: "I hope (they) will find some answers to (their) questions soon."

His lawyer, Friedrich Fulscher, meanwhile told the Mail Online that he was looking for a "full acquittal" in the upcoming trial, and that the charges "have nothing to do with Madeleine McCann". Mr Fulscher also said Brueckner has "not been charged with anything in relation to the McCann investigation", and that he had not been given access to the files to see what evidence was against him in the case.

Authorities have drawn up a series of water-tight security measures for the trial, which is due to last until June. Armed police will be stationed inside and outside the court for each of the 29 hearings, the Mirror can reveal. Brueckner is expected to be moved from his high-security prison in northern Germany for the duration of the trial. He will enter courtroom 141 via a secure tunnel from a holding facility accompanied by his legal team.

Lawyers, media and members of the public will have to show formal identification to police before entering the court. Court spokeswoman Lisa Rust confirmed a ‘polizeianordnung’ - police order - had been issued for Brueckner’s trial.
