The Academy Award-nominated actress has largely kept her dating and romance history out of the public eye, but in 2012, she told The Telegraph she had found her 'prince'. At the time, she was in a long-term relationship with American model and street artist Joe Appel, from 2009 to 2016.

"I've never seen myself as one who exists purely in terms of finding the perfect partner and living through them," she said in an interview with the publication. "But, having said that, I think I'm terribly lucky. I think I've found my prince." It was reported she moved to Los Angeles in 2014 to be with him, and they split two years later.

Riseborough has spent the last decade living in LA but was born and raised in Newcastle, and once described her hometown as the 'armpit' of the UK. On Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2017, she said it was "the cold north-east part".

"I took an ex-boyfriend to Newcastle and he was like 'the whole time I'm here, I'm just going to drink Brown Ale, you know'," she told the host. Riseborough was raised in Whitley Bay and bagged at place at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

In an interview with The Times around the time she played Margaret Thatcher in BBC's The Long Road to Finchley, she described her mother, a secretary, and father, a car salesman, as "working class Thatcherites". Riseborough rose to fame on British TV before landing roles in big budget movies like W.E. and Birdman.
