Actor James Buckley has been shamed by his wife for booking a Valentine's Day meal at their favourite restaurant - and going without her.

The Inbetweeners star, 36, who played Jay Cartwright in the E4 sitcom, headed out to the swanky restaurant with his friend and decided to leave his beloved wife, 35, at home while he enjoyed some dinner and drinks out. However, his actions clearly didn't go unnoticed by his other half, who cleverly and publicly called out the famous actor the his Valentine's Day faux pas.

Clair, who tied the knot with funny-man James back in 2012, geniously posed as a furious listener and wrote into their In Sickness and in Health podcast in a bid to publicly embarrass the actor for booking a Valentine's meal for two for himself and his friend instead of taking her out.

Listeners had no idea that when James was reading out the letter, that it was from his wife who was sitting right next to him - and neither did he. During the hilarious podcast episode, James read out the letter, not realising it was from Clair - until the penny finally dropped when he scanned over one vital line in the agony aunt style letter.

"My husband and I have been together for almost 14 years, and although we've never made a big deal of Valentine's Day. We've never done anything for Valentine's Day," James read aloud. "This year he has booked what I can only describe as a romantic meal for two - a table at his favourite restaurant - that I love too, at 6pm on the 14th of February. When I asked him about it, as it popped up in our shared calendar, he informed me that this booking was for him and his friend Chris. Should I be annoyed/worried," the letter read.

After putting two and two together, James erupted into a fit of laughter as Clair laughed along after calling out her husband in the most genius of ways. Further explaining the situation to the listeners, Clair said: "This is a true story. On our shared calendar on the phone pops up meal at James's favourite curry house, and I thought, 'Ah lovely, 6pm, Valentine's night'. Then he proceeds to come down the stairs, saying, 'By the way, you don't mind if I go out with Chris Valentine's Day, do you'?"

James quickly hit back: "'I've only got about three friends and he's one of them, and that was the day we were both free. So I'll be spending my Valentine's Day with Chris - and there'll be loads of couples around us.

Defending his Valentine's plans with his friend, James insisted: "A solid relationship and a solid marriage does not revolve around Valentine's Day. We've never done anything for Valentine's Day. Every day should be Valentine's Day."

James and Clair first met on Twitter in 2010 and tied the knot in 2012. They share two children, Harrison, born in 2011, and Jude, born in 2013.

Clair has previously admitted she had never watched The Inbetweeners when they first met in 2010 - which was around the time the third season was released.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: “I knew of the show and what it was but I didn’t tune in. I didn’t watch it, which might have been a good thing. I did watch a couple of episodes after we met but to this day I don’t think I’ve seen every single episode. James and Jay are nothing alike thank God.”
