Brentford boss Thomas Frank has played down suggestions that he could take over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Frank has impressed with his worked at the Bees, taking them up into the Premier League in 2021. He masterminded a respectable 13th place finish in their first campaign in the top-flight, before improving to ninth last term.

Though they have suffered a step back this campaign, Frank remains on Liverpool's shortlist for replacements for Klopp. The German is leaving his role at Anfield at the end of this season.

Former Reds star Xabi Alonso is seen as the frontrunner having led Bayer Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga. If Liverpool are unable to tempt him to Anfield though, Frank could be a potential alternative.

But the Brentford boss has now insisted he is happy with life in London. Though he admitted that he does have "ambitions", Frank dropped a heavy hint that he wants to remain with the Bees for the long-term.

“There’s a lot rumours out there. I think we all have kind of an ego and the ego likes that little bit of sugar but at the end of the day I’m at Brentford. I’m very happy here," Frank told Sky Sports.

"Do I have ambitions? Yes. Am I going to stay at Brentford forever? Maybe but probably not. So who knows what’s going to happen in the future. What I know is that I’m here at Brentford and I’m very happy with it.”

Those comments build upon the line Frank has frequently given since Klopp announced his exit. While he has previously revealed his admiration of Liverpool, the Dane is adamant his immediate future remains at Brentford.

“Yeah, I keep up with things and have seen that Xavi and Klopp are leaving. Two big coaching personalities for two fantastic clubs, both of whom have done well. Like everyone else, I also have ambitions, but it’s hard to say exactly what they are," he told Tipsbladet last week.

“I’m focused on doing well right now. I have no doubt that we need to finish the second half of the season strongly. I understand that we need some good performances and to win some football matches, and that’s my main focus right now."

Frank would have a big supporter in Klopp if he is being eyed as the German's successor. The Liverpool boss was full of praise for Brentford when his side beat the Bees back in November.

“Top performance, top result, super difficult opponent," Klopp said after the game. “Whatever happens on the pitch, they will have a set-piece and if they have one, how horrible is that? And then outside of set-pieces, they have really good ideas.

“More than 20 years ago when I started my career [with Mainz 05], I wanted to create a team that nobody wants to play against, and we faced that team today. The chances they had in the first half. These moments, horrible. Couldn't respect it anymore, but they're horrible.”
