Dataminers have discovered files in Tekken 8's files, which may have revealed who will be joining Eddy Gordo in the first season of Tekken 8 DLC.

Tekken 8 – much like Street Fighter 6 – will be releasing new characters on a seasonal basis, with a Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter schedule. Bandai Namco has already confirmed that the Tekken 8 Playable Character Year 1 Pass will be headlined by the Capoeira master – and enemy of all Tekken 3 newbies back in the day – Eddy Gordo (who was announced following the Tekken World Tour finals last month). However, the following characters remain a mystery for now, that is if you don't believe recent datamining.

Spoilers: This article will be naming the characters included in Tekken 8's DLC, if you want the announcements to be a surprise, look away now.

Twitter user @shootmans posted a thread revealing some interesting details that they found within the files of Tekken 8, which point to three unannounced DLC fighters. Fighters in Tekken 8 are listed with their fighting style and country of origin on the character select screen, which is how the user was able to determine the upcoming fighters.

Shootmans found one entry listing Capoeira and Brazil, which as we already know means Eddy Gordo. However, there are three more that are unaccounted for; Vale Tudo linked with Australia, Muai Thai linked with Thailand, and finally, an entry for Poland. These three entries match three existing Tekken fighters. The Australian Vale Tudo fighter is Craig Marduk. Muai Thai is used by Bruce and Josie throughout the series, but the country of origin being Thailand sadly means it's going to be Tekken 7's Fahkumram instead. Finally Tekken 7's final DLC fighter Lidia Sobieska is the only Polish Tekken character to date.

King of the ring

Tekken 8 is a fantastic game (I gave it a 4/5 in our review) but one of its weakest aspects has to be how many iconic fighters were cut from the roster, like Eddy Gordo, Miguel, Bob, and Julia Chang, while some of Tekken 7's most boring fighters like Claudio and Shaheen returned. And to be honest, I'm a bit disappointed in this round of DLC – should it turn out to be true. I don't really like Eddy Gordo, but he's one of the most iconic fighters in the series so his inclusion as DLC makes sense, but the DLC being made up of two of Tekken 7's final DLC fighters is a bit of a letdown.

Many expected Lidia to be a preview for Tekken 8 – the same way Luke was included as Street Fighter 5 DLC before appearing in Street Fighter 6 – so excluding her was a shock. However, Fahkumram will need some serious reworking to make me want to pick him up, his Tekken 7 appearance wasn't exactly popular outside of his overpowered status at launch, plus he is the possibly ugliest character design in Tekken history. Bruce has been a highly requested character to return to the series, and Josie was one of the best Tekken 7 newcomers, so seeing my least favourite of Tekken's Muai Thai crowd return is a shame. Of course this could all be wrong, we'll need to wait for Bandai Namco to officially announce the DLC fighters to find out.
