Tom Holland fans went into meltdown as they scrambled to bag tickets for his West End return.

The Hollywood actor is returning to London's theatre scene for Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. He will be taking the romantic lead role of Romeo Montague at the Duke Of York Theatre for three months this summer. Tom is best known for playing the role of Peter Parker, aka Spiderman, in the Marvel franchise.

The role of Juliet is yet to be announced, yet fans fought on Tuesday morning to secure their tickets for the show. Pre-sale went live at 8am, with thousands joining the online queue. Yet many fans were frustrated with the amount of other people trying to get their own tickets.

The play will run from Saturday, May 11 to Saturday, August 3. Director Jamie Lloyd said: "Tom Holland is one of the greatest, most exciting young actors in the world. It is an honour to welcome him back to the West End." Tom started his career in Billy Elliot: The Musical at Victoria Palace Theatre in 2008 before landing his huge blockbuster role as Spiderman.

He has not been on stage since playing Billy Elliot and will star alongside Harry Potter's Alfred Enoch, Sir Ian McKellen, Game Of Thrones' Sean Bean and Richard Madden. Tom recently shared how he is his own "best critic" as he watches his own TV and movie projects.

The actor met his girlfriend Zendaya on the set of Spiderman as she played Peter Parker’s friend and love interest MJ. Tom confessed it was the movie Spider-Man: Homecoming where they fell in love while filming that has captured their hearts. They watch it occasionally together to relive the early days of their relationship.

“Zendaya and I will, every now and then, watch Spider-Man 1 and reminisce about being 19 and making those movies again,” he told Extra. The British actor said he tries not to watch them as often as he would like “because it’s so special”, and admitted it was “such a gift to be able to sit down and sort of relive your youth.” He also joked Zendaya has watched his Apple TV+ miniseries, The Crowded Room “more times than I would have expected her to see it,” and admitted he watches his own projects as he stated: “I sometimes think I am my best critic.”
