Ant and Dec have dropped a huge bombshell about the upcoming series of Saturday Night Takeaway.

The ITV show, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, will return for its final series in 2024 and after that the Geordie presenting duo have announced they will be taking a well-earned break.

At the moment, the pair have been busy hosting the second series of their new game show, which also airs on Saturday nights on ITV, called Limitless Win. But over the weekend Ant and Dec confirmed the current series of the big money winning show, which saw one lucky couple walk away with £1million, had come to an end.

While some fans were gutted to hear this, it wasn’t all bad news as Dec told the audience: “That’s it for this week, and indeed for the series, and what a series it’s been. Our biggest ever win, Helen and Charlie walking away with £1 million. Wonderful.”

Sidekick Ant then added: “We’ll see you very soon for Saturday Night Takeaway. Thanks for watching everybody. See you soon!” While an exact return date for Saturday Night Takeaway has yet to be confirmed, fans speculated it could be as soon as next month.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan wrote: “Does that mean... Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway in two weeks’ time?” While a second viewer suggested it could start even sooner and asked: “That means Saturday Night Takeaway starts next Saturday night, right?”

Back in May last year, Ant and Dec, who are both 48 now, revealed they were quitting Saturday Night Takeaway after 20 years. The pair, who have fronted the show since 2002, have presented over 130 episodes, including two special spin-offs.

In a statement at the time, Ant said: "Hi everyone, we've got some news for you, next year, in 2024, it will be our 20th series of Saturday Night Takeaway. We've got some very special look-backs planned as well as some very exciting new items."

Dec, added: "We've also decided that our 20th series will be our last one for a little while. The show takes up such a lot of our year, we just feel that we need a little bit of a breather and the show is going to take a little bit of a rest."

Speaking about their decision, Ant told : "We love making Saturday Night Takeaway, but reaching the milestone of 20 series seemed like the perfect time to pause for a little while and catch our breath."

Ant and Dec’s decision to pause their long-running show could be linked to the duo’s recent decision to set up their very own production company. The ...Get Me Out of Here! presenters have established themselves as the nation's favourite double act since first appearing on screen together in Byker Grove back in the 90s, and the Geordie lads have now set their sights on even bigger things.

If they are no longer tied into a mega-money deal with ITV, the pair – said to be worth a whopping £62 million each – are said to be looking at 'new streaming opportunities,' to grow and expand the reach of their company. It is claimed they have their sights set on the big guns, such as Netflix and comes as fellow ITV presenter Holly Willoughby is rumoured to be hosting an I’m A Celebrity style show on Netflix soon with Bear Grylls.
