Patrick Mahomes had simple message for Chiefs before Super Bowl-winning drive
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a powerful message for his team just before they won Super Bowl LVIII.
He said to his teammates: "Come on, we're going to go score," according to rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice, who was in his huddle before overtime began on Sunday. The Chiefs were trailing 10-3 to the San Francisco 49ers at halftime but managed to force overtime and eventually won the game 25-22.
Mahomes' words came after a shaky first half where they missed an opportunity to score the opening touchdown due to a fumble. However, they bounced back in the second half, forcing the game into overtime. When the Niners settled for a field goal, Mahomes saw it as their chance to win another Super Bowl ring.
The winning touchdown was scored by Mecole Hardman, marking a fantastic end to a strange season for the player. After leaving the Chiefs for the New York Jets and then being overlooked, he was brought back to Kansas City.

Hardman slipped back into his old role with the Chiefs, a team that knows him well. As Rice pointed out, all players seem to do well regardless of their roles, thanks to their quarterback who bagged three Super Bowl rings at a younger age than NFL legend Tom Brady.
"That's probably the greatest feeling you can have in football, because obviously no one plays to lose," Rice said when asked about playing with Mahomes. "And me, my job is to catch every pass Pat throws me.

But it hasn't been a walk in the park for Rice, who got a shock on his first day training with the Chiefs this summer.
"It goes all the way back to training camp [and] long plays. First day [of] training camp I threw up and now I see why," Rice confessed after reflecting on this season, and the overtime winner at the end of it all. "We just kind of continue to run until we can't anymore and get into that deep water."
"It's like a heavyweight match out there and it's the last guy standing and luckily, we were able to continue to fight and push throughout the overtime."
