Pilot airlifted to hospital after plane 'spluttered' before crash into garden

A pilot was airlifted to hospital after a plane crashed into a garden of an Anglesey home.

So far, it is understood the light aircraft took off from the Mona Airfield on the island. A witness said he heard the engine start to splutter and the plane nose-dive into a residential area of Bodffordd, near Llangefni.

Police reported that they were told at 1.44pm that a light aircraft had crashed into the Cae Bach Aur estate - where they attended along with ambulance and fire crews. The Wales Air Ambulance also attended and airlifted the pilot of the plane to hospital, and said he didn't have life threatening injures. Luckily, no one else was hurt in the incident which could have potentially been much more serious.

Witness Dave Roberts told North Wales Live: "It took off, the engine started spluttering and then it started to nosedive whilst spinning and it disappeared out of sight. Steve Davies, who lives next door to where the plane came down, praised the emergency services for their response. He said: "Thank you for the emergency service for being so quick to deal with the matter."

A North Wales Police spokesman said: "At 1.44pm today (February 10) we received reports of a light aircraft crashing close to a residential area in Bodffordd, near Llangefni. Officers attended the location, along with ambulance and fire crews.

The Daily Post reported that the spokesman added: "The male pilot was the only occupant of the aircraft, and he was subsequently conveyed to hospital by air ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported from the scene."

Another man, 56-year-old Arwel Jones, who lives a few houses down from the crash, said he heard the light aircraft's engine cut out. He also went to check on the pilot, who was "okay and talking." He said: "It was over our estate and you could hear that the engine was getting starved on fuel and just ticking over.

"He was so low to the ground and he just ploughed down into a tree in a neighbour's garden. I couldn't believe my eyes. When we saw that happening I was just hoping he hadn't crashed into anybody or into anybody's house."

Another witness, Rees Roberts, who was working in a nearby field at the time, said he saw the "black and yellow bumblebee airplane" flying lower than he would expect. He said: "Sometimes they try the engines, but I noticed it and all of a sudden it cut off completely and just fell like a brick. So I jumped in the car and I was one of the first here and it had fallen in Cypress trees which had broken the fall descent.
