Thierry Henry has admitted he would be “great” for former Tottenham star Harry Kane to end his long wait for a trophy.

The striker took his search for silverware to Germany this season after completing a £100m move to Bayern Munich. It hasn’t quite gone to plan though. The reigning champions find themselves five points off the pace after a 3-0 defeat to title rivals Bayer Leverkusen.

Henry has admitted he wants to see Kane eventually get over the line. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "I want Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal to do well. After that, it would be great for the big man [Kane] to somehow grab a trophy.

“We all know that's what he's been chasing for a long time. So we'll see if he can do it at Bayern Munich, that would be great for him.

"Having said that, Bayer Leverkusen look like they're not slowing down. But hopefully he can do it. We always talk about Kane and how great he is - and he is great - it will be a shame if he leaves the game without something under his belt other than goals. But I think a guy like him, the way he is on and off the field, you want him to win something."

Kane’s search for silverware has threatened to extend even longer. Saturday’s defeat to Leverkusen dealt the striker’s hopes of a Bundesliga title a major blow.

And he has demanded instant improvement from his side if they are to force themselves back into contention. Speaking after the game to Sky Sports, he said: “We’re five points behind now but there are still a lot of games to go.

“This one hurts, we wanted a different outcome, but we have to focus on, first, the Champions League, and obviously the next game. There are a lot of games to be played and we have to try and make up as many points as we can, as quickly as we can.”

It was also put to Kane that Bayern were now underdogs in the race for the title, something that he denied. The striker added: “That’s not for us to decide.

“That’s for everyone else to decide. For us, we have to focus on ourselves, we have to improve, we have to get better. We know that. The games are coming thick and fast so we have to turn it around quick.”

Kane came close to lifting multiple pieces of silverware during his time in North London. Spurs reached a Champions League and two League Cup finals under the stewardship of Mauricio Pochettino.

The North London side also put together a clutch of title challenges - their highest ever Premier League finish coming in 2016/17 when they finished as runners-up to eventual champions Chelsea.
