A Gladiators contender was filled with nothing but praise for the new stars of the BBC show.

Contestant Betti gushed over her rival Fury after their intense clash in The Ring, the first challenge of Saturday's show. After a series of fierce tackles from professional rugby player Fury, Betti admitted to host Barney Walsh: "She is an absolute machine. I've had some hard tackles in football, where I've been rammed into fences, and it felt like a fence... and a car crash."

Meanwhile, Irish contestant Tuathlaith, who faced off against Diamond, said: "It was good, she's strong! I tried to get round her, but when she caught you, there was no getting away from her." Fans on X previously known as Twitter were full of admiration for the Gladiators, with many calling Fury and Diamond "gorgeous".

One fan joked: "How much does one have to pay to be carried around by Diamond? Asking for a me." Another chimed in: "This but to get rugby tackled by Fury." "I think Fury might be my favourite!" someone else agreed. Another fan added: "Diamond is stunning. My favourite female Gladiator." A fifth fan gushed: "Diamond from Gladiators... be still my beating heart!"

Diamond, real name Livi Sheldon, recently opened up online about how training had changed her life. "When I first started training it was initially ‘to lose weight’ but later as I got more consistent I realised how much it was changing my body shape and I loved it," she wrote on Instagram. "The training was never the problem for me, I could train all day long, push myself, and never miss a session. It was the diet."

Livi struggled for many years with emotional eating, turning to junk food like chocolate or pizza for comfort. "It’s taken many years for me to see food as fuel," she said. Diamond is described as "striking and indestructible". "I feel like becoming a Gladiator is something I've been training for my whole life," she said. "From playing football when I was younger through to swimming and then going into bodybuilding.

"I feel like all of it has led me to this outcome of being a Gladiator. I do not think I would have had half the strength that I currently have if I hadn't had all of my past experiences."

Viewers are still not happy with the awkward chats between hosts Bradley and Barney Walsh, with some saying Barney seems "out of his depth". While in the latest episode, Bradley told off his son for joking: "Here's an idea: [Sheffield] council should name a street after one of the Gladiators!" Bradley cut in: "No way, absolutely not."

"Terrible suggestion. Would be chaos. Because no-one wants to cross one of our Gladiators!" Barney didn't seem too pleased with the joke, and the audience didn't laugh much either.
