ITV The Masked Singer drama explained - what star did to 'horrify' producers
Dionne Warwick left The Masked Singer UK producers “horrified” during her appearance on the hit ITV show.
In January, the legendary singer became the first contestant to be booted from the show when she was unmasked as Weather, but her time on the programme wasn’t without drama. During her exit, Dionne insisted she wasn’t surprised because her pipes are world-renowned. “I said, ‘I can’t disguise my voice. The minute I open my mouth, I’m gone!’ That’s been my blessing and I never want to disguise it. So, the minute I opened my mouth, everybody sussed it out.”

But while Dionne impressed judges and viewers alike, the same can’t be said for the show’s producers, who Dionne left “looking on in horror” when she point black refused to wear her costume one night, as revealed in January by the show’s costume designer.
Describing how the drama unfolded, Tim Simpson told : “Dionne Warwick came on and she tried her mask on and she just took it off and said, ‘I’m not wearing that’, because we have a particular type of head cradle inside the mask. We had about four and a half hours before she was due on stage, and she had point-blank refused to wear it as it stood.”
Last week, Pussycat dolls star Melody Thornton was revealed to be Maypole (DIGITAL/EROTEME.CO.UK)There were then urgent alterations made to the mask as show producers watched on in a cold sweat. Tim recalled: "I had to rip out the head cradle, at which point she looked at me and went, 'Okay, now we’re in business,' as the producers looked on just with horror, like sheer horror, as I’m tearing apart this mask that we’ve spent so many weeks working on." Thankfully, the superstar singer was chuffed with the alterations and remarked “that’s great” when she tried the mask on again.

Last week, Pussycat dolls star Melody Thornton was revealed to be Maypole, however some people mistakenly thought it was behind the mask seeing as she’s been absent from filming due to her commitments abroad. Speaking about the mistaken identity, Melody joked: "I loved that they thought it was Rita at first because she wasn't on the panel! I said it out there, and I'll say it again. Two of my band mates were mentioned, which actually I was like, 'Yes. Good. Yeah, go that way.' Even though it's too close. When you've been in a group, you'll always be a part of that.” She added: “I think that the thing about this show is that it's all positive. You actually just get to have fun, and it's been lovely bringing this character to life! ... What I've enjoyed most is that Maypole is so positive."
