A group of residents have given a glimpse into why their road has been named one of Britain's best streets to live on.

With houses that sport large gardens and properties full of character, Mount Crescent in Brentwood, Essex is a popular place to live -and has recently been voted one of the best streets in the country. The suburban street, to the south of the birthplace of The Only Way is Essex, is lined with large detached houses, often from the pre-war period.

There are those with large driveways with plenty of space for several cars; then are those that have gorgeously impressive wooden beam features. Mount Crescent was included in a recent list of the UK's 50 best streets to live on.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "[The road is] so quiet and [there are] large gardens. We are near the train station and near the playing fields too. There are other lovely roads nearby like the Hutton Mount estate but it's nice here. I have got a large garden to attend at back so I have to get someone in to deal with that and so downsizing is the obvious thing for me to do."

Another resident explained: "I've lived here for quite a few years and I do enjoy it here - nowhere is perfect mind! I like the view from the hill. It's reasonably quiet here but we're equally quite close to places we need to be, so it's convenient. My children were smaller when we moved in and so we would go to the park in the evening when it was empty and that was great."

At one end of Mount Crescent is King George's Playing Fields where families can spend time at one of the several play parks, exploring the ornamental garden, cooling down in the splash park or going for a walk. The park is also home to Brentwood Rugby Club, the Bowling Club and football pitches, as well as a skate park too.

And handily, Brentwood train station is just a few minutes walk from the other end of the road. And with trains departing for central London around every ten minutes, it proposes the ideal location for commuters looking for both easy access into the city and suburban bliss.

According to the Telegraph, the neighbourhood's average house price was £513,426 with an average local authority house price as £477,833. One resident, however, suggested houses on Mount Crescent can sell for much higher which can price younger people out of the area. And according to Rightmove the overall average price was £903,333 in the last year. It says that overall, sold prices in Mount Crescent over the last year were 11 per cent down on the previous year and 39 per cent down on the 2020 peak of £1,480,000.

One of the main reasons Brentwood is so well-known is thanks to The Only Way is Essex. The busy Essex town ended up hosting a huge list of businesses owned by members of the ITV show's cast list, including hair salons, clothing stores, and even a deli.

Such was the interest in Brentwood that "bus loads" of people would make the trip to Essex in order to take in the sights. At its peak, more than 1,750,000 people on average watched the show - each of the last five seasons has failed to pass 1,000,000 average viewers though.
