Queen Camilla handed new royal title days after King Charles' cancer update
Just days after it was announced that King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer, and has begun regular treatment, Queen Camilla is set to be handed a new title. She will become 'Honorary Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers' at an installation ceremony on 13 February.
King Charles's diagnosis came after he was treated in hospital for another condition - a benign prostate enlargement - and while Buckingham Palace has not specified what kind of cancer the monarch has, they have said that it is not prostrate cancer. Whilst Charles is undergoing treatment, he will be pausing "public-facing duties" on the advice of his medical team, which means that Queen Camilla - as one of only a handful of working royals - will be stepping into the spotlight to represent the Royal Family.
The Queen will attend the installation ceremony at Clarence House next week alongside the Duchess of Gloucester, who was installed as a liveryman too back in 2005, will join her for the occasion.
The Worshipful Company of Fan Makers dates back to 1670 and gained a royal charter in 1709. Camilla will get to meet representatives of the Fan Museum - of which she has been the royal patron since 2008 - before taking part in the ceremony, which will see her clothed as an honorary liveryman and be given a special fan that was commissioned to "mark the impact of Covid-19 on so many lives" and was designed by Stewart Parvin - a couture British fashion designer.
With Charles absent from public engagements while he continues his cancer treatment and Kate also off-duty as she recovers at home from what Kensington Palace has called a "planned abdominal surgery", Camilla will be one of only a few working royals taking part in engagements.

Speaking about her husband's diagnosis at an event she attended at Salisbury Cathedral, Camilla said Charles "is doing extremely well under the circumstances" and that "He is very touched by all of the letters and messages the public have been sending from everywhere" noting that he has found the support "very cheering".
Prince William, who took a break to take care of his wife and children, returned to official duties this week by conducting an investiture at Windsor Castle and an appearance at a fundraiser for the London Air Ambulance, during which he thanked the public for their "kind messages of support" for the health difficulties his father and wife are experiencing.
