Prince Harry is set to join the likes of Taylor Swift and attend the 2024 Super Bowl after appearing at the NFL Honours ceremony to present an award.

Sources have told The Mirror that American football bosses have invited the Duke of Sussex to Sunday's game between San Francisco and Kansas City. Harry appeared at the NFL Honours ceremony in Las Vegas to present an award on Thursday night, just days after the King revealed his cancer diagnosis.

An NFL insider said: "It is well known the Prince loves American football, and bosses have extended an invitation to him following his appearance at the awards. This year's Super Bowl is expected to be one of the most watched ever due largely to Taylor being there to support her boyfriend."

Harry is no stranger to the Super Bowl. In 2022, he attended the game with Prince Eugenie in California. The news comes after Harry flew thousands of miles from his Californian home to be at the King's side on Tuesday, meeting with his father for around 45 minutes at Clarence House. There was no meeting between the Prince of Wales and Harry, who have had a fractured relationship for several years, exacerbated after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working royals, moved to America and aired a string of grievances against the royal family.

Harry appeared in public for the first time since his father's diagnosis on Thursday night at the NFL Honours ceremony and seemed to poke fun at the UK in his speech. "Really love how you stole rugby from us," Harry joked before speaking about the minor differences between American football and rugby. He decided not to mention the King.

"Instead of passing it backwards, just pass it forwards," he said. "Why not wear pads and a helmet? All kidding aside, what you guys do on and off the field is truly remarkable. You are role models for millions in the way you carry yourselves and the way you give back," Harry said.

He then welcomed Pittsburgh Steelers football player Cameron Heyward onto the stage to receive the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Cameron seemed taken aback by Harry's presence and jokingly said: "Man, Prince freaking Harry. Man, I'm in shock. That's Prince Harry." He added: "I want to say thank you to the Pittsburgh Steelers for giving me this opportunity.

"Mike T (Tomlin), it’s an honour to be coached by you. I couldn't play for any other coach. To my teammates, I'm thankful to be your teammate."

The Walter Payton Man of the Year award is an annual award presented by the NFL honouring a player's commitment to philanthropy, community impact and his greatness on the field. In addition to the trophy, Cameron will also be awarded $250,000 (£198,000) to donate to a charity of his choice.
