Netflix One Day fans all say the same thing after 'abysmal' film adaption
One Day fans have declared the new Netflix show better than the movie version - as it is more faithful to the book.
The new Netflix series, released on Thursday ahead of Valentine's Day has proved to be an incredible hit with viewers who have hailed the series 'a masterpiece' after the poorly received 2011 film adaptation starring Anne Hathaway.
The series features rising British stars Ambika Mod, from BBC drama 'This Is Going To Hurt', and Leo Woodall from 'The White Lotus', as lead characters Emma and Dexter in the TV adaption of the book - which has debuted 13 years after the movie.
The romantic drama revisits the lives of the lovers every July 15 over two decades. A trailer for the series shows that Ambika, who was born to Indian parents in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, has a better grasp of the northern accent than Hathaway, 41, who starred in the original film as Emma.
When the movie was released in 2011, fans of the best-selling novel flocked to theatres far and wide to see the heartbreaking romance story played out on screen. However, the flick received dire reviews at the time as unimpressed stans insisted that the characters casting was wrong and Hollywood star Anne, 41, was the complete wrong choice to play main character Emma.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan gushed: "Can we talk about the Netflix version of #OneDay now? I've never cried so much at a show in my life. I loved every minute." Another swooned: "The way i haven't been tweeting omfg the woman was too stunned to speak. can't explain just how perfect this adaptation of emmadex is literally need to wheeled to hospital. ambika and leo are BRILLIANT #onedaynetflix."
"I actually feel sick from crying at One Day. Anne Hathaway was abysmal compared Ambika. Oh my god, best series EVER," another enthused. Someone else shared: "I'm off sick today & it hurts to look at a screen, but I have just finished the first episode of #OneDay on Netflix. One Day is one of my most beloved books, and oh this series is already everything I needed and wanted. also, songs from THE Emma Morley Mix Tape? gorgeous."
Of his novel making it onto Netflix, author Nicholls told Entertainment Weekly: "The premise of the novel was it should be like looking through a photograph album in the way that a photograph snatches a moment in time, that these days are little vignettes of how you were at that time, and so that was very much the intention with the show, that they would age."
One Day is available to stream on Netflix now.
