Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce joked about the hefty amount he's spending on Super Bowl LVIII tickets for his family and friends.

In the Thursday edition of his "New Heights" podcast, co-hosted with his brother Jason Kelce, Kelce discussed the high prices of tickets for the 2024 Super Bowl. However, he did not disclose the amount of money he would need to spend for the game.

"I'm not really doing much different other than just counting how much money I'm spending on this damn Super Bowl for family and friends to come," Kelce said. "Just making sure I'm on top of those finances and losing all this money."

Kelce, who signed a four-year contract with the Chiefs in 2020 worth $57.25 million, with $22.75 million guaranteed. His previous contract with the team included a $10m signing bonus, and his 2024 earnings eclipsed $12m with incentives.

The tight end didn't reveal exactly how much he's shelling out for the game against the San Francisco 49ers. A recent report by Finder.com suggests that a ticket for the 2024 Super Bowl will cost around 11.7 percent of the median household income.

The pay of NFL Super Bowl players has nearly doubled compared to average households. This year, the champs are likely to earn over £157k. Last year, the Philadelphia Eagles pocketed £82k despite losing to the Chiefs by a narrow 38-35 margin.

The National Retail Foundation predicts that fans will fork out around £17.3billion to view Super Bowl LVIII. Kelce was not the only member of the NFL community to complain about the price tag surrounding the event.

Christian McCaffrey's mum, Lisa, confessed she couldn't afford eight tickets for her family. She insisted on the group amount to ensure each of her family members was together for the game, which was the most important factor to her.

Olivia Culpo, McCaffrey's fiancee, offered to cover the cost, but he turned her down, saying he doesn't like people paying to see him play. Lisa McCaffrey said: "We looked into a suite, and none of us can afford it," and "Not even Christian, money bags over there, nor money bags, Olivia. So, we are not in a suite. I will tell you that right now."

Luxury suites at the game, provided by Suite Experience Group, range from £180,000 for four people up to £1.8m for twenty people, DAZN reported. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy would have to spend a sizeable chunk of his yearly wage of around £934,000 on a luxury suite.
