Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys star, has shared his admiration for Patrick Mahomes, calling him a "genuine human being" and saying he loves the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. However, Romo also mentioned that Mahomes might face some tough times after the Super Bowl on Sunday as he looked ahead to next season.

Romo, who now works as an announcer for CBS Sports, hung up his boots just before Mahomes joined the NFL in 2017. Romo regularly commentates on Chiefs games and will be in the commentary box for Sunday's Super Bowl in Las Vegas. He's watched Mahomes grow into the player he is today, possibly one of the best quarterbacks ever, following in Tom Brady's footsteps.

Mahomes, at 28, is on the verge of possibly winning his third Super Bowl ring this Sunday if his team beats the San Francisco 49ers. Speaking on CBS Media Day, Romo couldn't hide his feelings about Mahomes. "It's an incredible honour to be that guy. Brady was for a really long time, Mahomes has taken over that mantle and I could not be happier," he said.

He went on to say: "This is a once-in-a-generation talent but also a once-in-a-generation person. He is such a unique, honest, genuine human being that you can't help but really love."

Life seems pretty perfect for Mahomes right now. He's married to his high-school sweetheart Brittany, has two kids with her, and is at the top of his game in football. But Romo reckons that the Chiefs could face a tough test next season and beyond, especially with the AFC West shaping up to be more challenging for Mahomes and his team.

The other three teams in the division have made significant changes. The Las Vegas Raiders have promoted interim head coach Antonio Pierce to full-time leader, while legendary Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has returned to the NFL after being hired by the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Denver Broncos, led by experienced coach Sean Payton, are yet to reach their full potential, and their quarterback situation could see a shake-up by the start of the 2024 season. "They're in a very difficult division. I think Jim Harbaugh coming back is going to make it much harder," Romo said.

"You've got three incredible coaches and I think a fourth as I think Antonio Pierce is going to be great. I played against him, he's very smart, and he has the pulse of the team. He's going to go ahead and get them to play as hard as any football team in the NFL. In that division, you can be good and still not make the playoffs. And Sean will figure it out, he always does, and he'll adjust. He's one of the smartest people I've ever met."

This Sunday's game is crucial for Mahomes. While it may seem like he can effortlessly reach the Super Bowl each year, as Romo knows from his own ringless career, it's vital that Mahomes makes the most of every playoff opportunity he gets.
