Paddy McGuinness impressed Question Time viewers as he took on a Tory MP.

Viewers tuning into the BBC politics show were thrilled to see Top Gear presenter Paddy quiz the new Conservative Deputy Chairman James Daly, about the NHS. The pair were appearing on the show, which is hosted by Fiona Bruce alongside Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting, among others.

As Paddy discussed the Tories failed promise for £350million for the NHS, Paddy made a dig at the former Prime Minister as he explained his reason for being on the politics show. As he discussed the promise, which was famously plastered on the side of a bus, he said: "Lucky for me, most people know I’m not here for my great political brain. But that didn’t stop Boris Johnson, so that’s alright.

"For me, James, you saying to Wes that Sir Keir Starmer is doing anything to get a vote is a bit rich coming from a Tory, let me tell you. We’re still waiting on the £350million a week Boris Johnson promised us for the NHS."

Mr Daly tried to defend his party and said the money was in the NHS already but Paddy was quick step in and question him over the 'missing' funds, adding: "Well where is it? Why is the NHS on its knees if it’s here? Why are they going on strike, nurses and doctors, if it’s here? Where is it?"

Viewers took to social media to praise Paddy's comments to Mr Daly. One wrote: "Who knew paddy was this good with politics. Like him even more," whilst a second added: "Go on @PaddyMcGuinness tell 'em straight."

A third wrote: "Why the hell hasn't Paddy McGuinness @PaddyMcGuinness been on #bbcqt before now? Bloody brilliant!" A fourth shared: "Why is Paddy McGuinness the best person on this panel? #bbcqt," with a fifth writing: "OMG Paddy McGuinness going after the Tories! Big applause #bbcqt." Elsewhere on the show, Paddy shared his own family's experience with dentists as they discussed the dentist crisis, which has seen people queuing hours outside dental surgeries offering to sign up new NHS patients.

When questioned about the dentistry crisis, Mr Daly said the Tories were “trying our very, very best to address the issues”. However, it was Paddy's comment, "It’s been announced this week because there’s an election around the corner, that’s why you’ve announced it," that sparked a huge applause from the audience that were in the Nottingham studio.

When Fiona asked if it was time to bring out the pliers and the panel discussed how people had pulled their teeth out at home, Paddy added: "Funnily enough my dad did that. He took his own teeth out because he couldn’t get a dentist appointment. This is a few years back, so I know that first hand. But as someone as a child who was terrified of going to the dentist I’ve got to congratulate the government for getting people queuing up. People can’t wait to get into the dentists now."

It comes as more than 100,000 people signed a Mirror petition demanding fair access to dentists for all. More than 12million people were unable to get dental care last year – more than 1 in 4 adults in England. At the same time 90% of dental practices are no longer accepting new NHS adult patients.

Earlier in the programme, the panel discussed Labour dropping a flagship election promise to spend £28billion investing in green schemes. But Paddy said that made him like Labour leader Keir Starmer even more, as he described himself as a "floating" voter.

"I see myself as a floating voter and I think in this day in age, certainly the past five years or so, politics seems to have been led by personality. And if you look at Boris Johnson and how he did it to get into power - and that's a prime example - then my worry with Keir Starmer is what he's said today. I don't know the ins and outs of it, but I almost kind of admire him for doing it now. Rather than after getting into power," he explained of Labour's U-turn on their eco pledge.

"I'll be flabbergasted if they [Labour] don't get in. And I think him saying that, for me personally, well I'd hate for him to say that after he got in power. And then you feel even more let down. But with regards to the climate crisis, most people, most taxpayers, kind of do their bit - you've got every colour bin outside your house, you put solar panels on your roof.

"And you do all the things you can try and to do help. But at the end of the day it's up to these lot, the government and big business. It's not on us. It's these lot who need to get their act together."
