The San Francisco 49ers are looking to win their first Super Bowl in almost 30 years this Sunday, but they're only there because of running-back Christian McCaffrey.

McCaffrey has scored 25 touchdowns across both the regular season and playoffs for the Niners on their route to the Super Bowl, and his trade from the Carolina Panthers has seen a major impact on the team. McCaffrey is a finalist for the NFL MVP award alongside favourite Lamar Jackson, and will find out if he's deemed worthy on Thursday Night at the NFL Honours.

Former Niners player Dennis Brown not only thinks that McCaffrey should be named MVP for this season, but he also believes that Christian is the best player in the NFL. "Christian McCaffrey has done so much for this offense. He's unlocked the cheat codes now," Brown told Mirror Sport.

"I mean, the way he plays, his vision, the way he runs, his maturity and his knowledge of his offense now, it compares to none. I think he's the best player in the National Football League. As far as MVPs, I think Christian McCaffrey is the MVP of the NFL.

"If you look at the way he runs consistently, he's gonna be in the end zone. He's gonna run hard. He's not a dancer, he just kind of flows." It was a stunning trade by general manager John Lynch, something that Brown gives him huge credit for.

"When you look back, John Lynch is gonna get huge credit for this because he was able to get Christian McCaffrey, he was able to bring Trent Williams onto this team and he's done a fantastic job," Brown added. "But I think Chris McCaffrey turned his offense into a top tier offense because everyone knows if you've got a run game, you can play against anybody."

Of the 25 touchdowns McCaffrey has scored this season, four of them have been receiving. The Niners star is the perfect example of a hybrid running-back, meaning that opposition defenders don't know how to cover him as he changes his style and running routes consistently during games.

McCaffrey set the tone right after landing in San Francisco from Carolina, making Niners history after just two weeks with his new team. In just his second game for the organization McCaffrey recorded rushing, receiving and passing touchdowns in the same game. Something no Niners player had ever done.

For McCaffrey, the MVP award would be a huge achievement to mark his incredible season, but he'd much rather have a Super Bowl ring than an individual honour. "One thing this week has taught me is, the individual awards and all the individual accolades that you get are great, but there's nothing bigger than the Super Bowl, and that's very true," McCaffrey said to the media on Wednesday.

"I think I realised that when they announced the All-Pro and the Pro Bowl and all those things. I'm extremely grateful for those, and I don't take them lightly, and I don't take them for granted, but to have an opportunity to play in the Super Bowl is the biggest thing on the planet, and I think it's what this whole game is about. So I think that's what's really special."
