Commentator breaks silence on calling Swift 'Kelce's wife' on NFL broadcast
CBS Sports announcer Tony Romo has confessed that he was only joking when he referred to Taylor Swift as the "wife" of Travis Kelce during NFL broadcasts.
The announcer thought he better come clean at the CBS Media Day on Tuesday, ahead of Super Bowl LVIII. "I add humour a lot of the time, so the people who really know me get it," Romo explained. "So when I'm joking about Taylor Swift being a 'wife' it's a joke, not everyone gets it."
Romo revealed that he holds both Swift and Kelce in high regard and is rooting for their relationship. He believes that Swift has had a significant influence on the Chiefs, Kelce, and the NFL since attending her first game this season.
"Anything she says resonates and everyone wants to know," Romo said. "To me, I just sit there and think about her gift, and her ability to create and make something that so many people love. I think it's really unique to be around anybody who has a talent at that level.

"Travis is the same thing as a tight end and I root for them. I like them both, I think they're both amazing people, and the fact that if you're around either one of them you see their whole heart and the way they treat people, it just makes you root for people like that.
"They just have a gift that's so rare that the world has given them. It's good to see their work ethic and their ability to go out there and make something. It's a treat for all of us to be able to enjoy it."
Romo initially faced some criticism for mistakenly referring to Swift as Kelce's wife during a Christmas Day game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He repeated the error in January when the Chiefs triumphed over the Buffalo Bills on their journey to the AFC Championship.
He then bumped into her on the pitch after Kansas City's victory over the Baltimore Ravens a couple of weekends ago. Swift and Romo might cross paths again, with the pop star expected to jet back from Tokyo, Japan on Feb. 10 to attend the Super Bowl the next day.
Romo and CBS are covering the Super Bowl this year, where the Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers. Kelce has confessed his desire to win this Super Bowl "more than any other," and the Chiefs could become the first team since the New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004 to secure back-to-back championships.
However, the 49ers seem to have the home advantage, with their fans outnumbering the Chiefs' supporters in Las Vegas. The Chiefs aren't bothered though, and this week offensive lineman Creed Humphrey said they're "ready to rock and roll" in a hostile environment.
