Little Mix fans baffled as Perrie Edwards teases solo music under a 'new name'

When former members of Little Mix branched out to release solo music, many were left waiting with bated breath if Perrie Edwards would follow in the footsteps of Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

So it delighted fans when Perrie, 30, posted a message detailing a release date for her debut solo single - but it wasn't just details of her upcoming song that attracted attention. Fans were left scratching their heads when she signed off the message with a scrawl that looked nothing like her name. The message read: "Join me 13th Feb, lots of love, Perrie."

This was accompanied by a heart emoji . But the first letter of her name resembled either the letter S or a J - and fans picked up on this straight away. One person took to Twitter and said: "I’m thrilled for Perrie and I know the music will be banging but I can’t help but see ‘..lots of love, Semi’Just me?"

Another person commented: "I mean its all I can see now!" A third person added: "Semi? Jemi? Jenni? OH PERRIE.PERRIE EDWARDS." Meanwhile a fourth person penned: "lol I was like “who’s jemi?" Others got just got excited about the announcement, with one writing: "What we know so far about Perrie Edwards solo debut; - She is experimented with all kinds of genres - Ballads is definitely going to be on the album - She has 3 singles decided, all are different from each other - She invited people to an event on Feb 13th (listening party?)."

Back in November last year, Perrie shared with fans that she had started working on new solo material. Taking to Instagram she wrote: "I think I'm in a very good place with the album right now. It's been an amazing process. I've met some incredible writers, incredible producers; people I've never worked with before. It's been really fun, I've loved it. It's been a very different process to being in the band. I think it's brought me out of my shell a lot; I used to use [Jade and Leigh-Anne] as my comfort blanket in the studio."

She added: "It's quite intimidating, writing with amazing writers and producers in the room. If you have an idea, you're like 'what about this?' But then you feel a bit silly. I've had to come out of my shell. Going into the process, I sat down with my label and said 'I don't know if I want to write that much, I don't know if I'm a very good writer. I've always been with the girls."

Speaking about her joy of songwriting, she continued: "As the process went on and I started pushing myself more, I realised that I actually love to write music. That was a surprise to me. It's been nice to be [at my home studio], gaining the confidence to write my own music. Trust me, I'm desperate to give you music - but I just want to perfect it and make sure it's 100 per cent what I want to release and what I want you to hear. I'm cooking away, getting it all ready and I can't wait to share it with you."

At the time, speaking to Grazia UK, she said: "I don't have a set timeline [for my solo material]. My label have told me to just go with the flow and enjoy discovering what my sound is going to be. The fact there's no deadline in my life just makes me the happiest person. I feel so lucky to just be having fun."
