A selfie taken by a woman showed her the fate that awaited her in the shape of her husband-to-be – years before they even met. The Malaysian content creator told her followers on a social-media site that she just realised that she'd encountered her husband in October 2012, but that was two years before they actually met – and 11 years before they got married.

Many of Jenn Chia's Instagram followers compared it to the "invisible string theory", an old concept where two soulmates who are destined to meet are connected by an invisible thread. She was at the theatre, and her now-husband Jon, can be seen in the background of her selfie as he waited in the queue for a ticket, completely unaware that each other existed.

Jenn wrote on her post that "I'm still shaking looking at this." The 32-year-old met her husband, 33-year-old UK-born Malaysian singer Jon Liddell, two years after the photo was taken, in December 2014. But Jenn admitted that she wasn't ready at the time for a relationship. She said: "We were at the same place but didn't know each other existed. We met at the right time.

"If it was before, I don't think the relationship would have lasted. I was a narcissistic monster, unaware and naive. Took me a year of travelling and being single to reflect and realise my own mistakes. That's when we met," she added and concluded: "The right person will always find you at the right time," as the couple then got married in August 2023.

Jenn is a YouTuber who boasts more than 90,000 subscribers, with a further 583K followers on Instagram. Before teaching herself videography, she wrote music and sang professionally at festivals, weddings, and corporate events. Jon, who was born in the UK, is known for the covers he posts on YouTube and his original music, including the tracks Here For You and The One I’m Thinking Of.

Chia’s Instagram fans couldn’t believe her chance near-encounter after she shared the couple's love story. One follower said: "Isn't it just so pretty to think, all along there was an invisible string?" And another added: "The invisible string theory. It's true," while a third said: "Omg this is so magical!! Fate brought you guys together."

Jon then commented on the post and agreed with his wife about their timing saying: "So glad you didn't meet me in the first picture. We were meant to go on our own journeys. We met a few years later at the perfect time."
