Love Island fans say 'karma' has caught up with Chris as they support co-star

Love Island: All Stars viewers have been divided over Chris Taylor after Joanna Chimonides said she wanted to "take a step back romantically," but some say it's "karma".

Chris, 33, and Joanna, 27, had been getting close after coupling up in the villa on the ITV2 spin-off series recently. She however shared in Wednesday night's episode that his speech at the latest recoupling had her questioning things.

He had previously been pursuing a romance with Arabella Chi, 32, earlier in the season. Things ended between them following a tense conversation and he's since accused her of "holding a grudge," suggesting she's influenced Joanna.

The latest episode saw Joanna share that she wanted to "take a step back romantically" to assess her feelings, as well as telling Chris that she wants to get to know Callum Jones, 27. She expressed concern about Chris' personality and he went on to suggest that they may not be compatible.

Fans of the show have shared their thoughts about the scene on platforms like X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram this week. A number of them suggested that Joanna's actions were "karma" for Chris' own behaviour.

One person responded to footage of Joanna cooling things off with him: "Well that's karma for Arabella, at least Joanna did it nicely." Another person said: "It's called karma, Chris." Whilst a third commented: "Karma looks good on you."

Someone else said it's "karma," adding: "Digging Arabella out even though she couldn't give 2 s***s about him." Another fan wrote: "Arabella [liked him for him] and he was mean to her. Karma." Another person, who referenced "karma" in a hashtag, wrote: "Chris can happily 'bin' people but his ego gets so bruised when it happens to him!"

One viewer wrote: "Deserved for how he treated Arabella tbh." Another reacted to the scene: "It's a bit of karma for the way he was with Arabella." Someone said: "He fobbed off Arabella who liked him for him. He has himself to blame." "What goes around comes around," read another response on one of the platforms recently. Whilst someone else said: "This is karma for Chris. He treated Arabella so badly."

Not everyone felt that way though, with others expressing sympathy with Chris over his experience in the villa so far. One person reacted: "My heart actually breaks for Chris because all he wants is for someone to want him for him." The comment has amassed thousands of likes on Instagram.

Someone else said: "Heart kinda broke for Chris there." Another said: "Aww actually felt bad for Chris. He will find someone that loves all of him." Someone else commented: "Some may hate on Chris but he's been unapologetically himself and genuinely trying to find the right connection."

Addressing criticism of his actions towards Arabella, one person wrote: "He wasn't mean, just honest about getting to know Sophie." Another said: "Arabella's ego took a hit and instead of talking to him, she shouted at him." A third wrote: "She didn't like the honesty because it meant he liked someone else." Another said: "If he didn't like her, why should he stick with her? Just like Joanna [did with him]. There is absolutely nothing wrong with what has happened in either situation."

Earlier in the season, Chris had been coupled-up with Arabella. They parted ways shortly after Sophie Piper, 25, entered the villa. Following a date with Sophie, Chris told Arabella that they intended to "keep chatting". He was later seen holding hands with her as they walked past Arabella.

Arabella confronted Chris in a tense discussion that aired last month on the ITV2 show. Chris apologised to her in the conversation for holding hands with Sophie in front of her, after Arabella recalled that he'd promised the previous night to "be respectful" and not "do anything" in front of her.

"I didn't wanna hurt your feelings," he told her. Tensions flared though and at one point Arabella accused him of being "patronising," which he denied. Chris went on to say: "I can't see myself with somebody that would ask me to be open, receive the openness and then throw it back in my face." Arabella said: "I can't be with someone who doesn't wanna communicate with me."

The latest episode saw Joanna share her concern about her own relationship with Chris to Arabella, saying: "He's got such a like big jokey personality but sometimes I'm like 'what's the real you?' [His speech] was just sarcastic. [...] It's like a showman personality. [...] Over time, it's just grating on me."

Chris subsequently told Toby Aromolaran in the episode: "I'm not massively keen on the idea she's talking to Arabella. Cause the thing is with Arabella, she holds a grudge so bad. She's probably still p***ed off that I binned her off."

Joanna later acknowledged having been "a bit distant" to Chris, saying that she was trying to "navigate" her feelings. She said: "I just need to take a step back romantically and figure out what I'm doing and what's going on in my head, cause it's not fair on you."

Joanna shared that she's interested in getting to know Callum, whilst Chris said: "We were going in a good direction and like barriers were being broken down and we were getting really close, and then I feel like I said my speech and there was just a mood shift like instantly after it."

Responding, Joanna said: "I just felt that it.. not sarcasm, but overly jokey." After Chris said that he hadn't meant for it to seem sarcastic, she said: "That's you and that's the way you communicate how you're feeling. There's nothing wrong with your personality." Chris said: "Maybe we're just not compatible then, and that's alright! Not everybody is for everybody."
