Brits are continuing to flock to one of the UK's 'worst seaside towns' thanks to its gorgeous sandy beach and cheap hotels with some rooms from £11 a night.

Great Yarmouth in Norfolk remains a firm favourite with those after a staycation thanks to its budget-friendly stays and long sandy beach. Still, it was named as one of the 10 worst beachside spots in the country by Which? last year, with visitors complaining about shabby arcades, B&Bs that left them wanting, and some aggressive seagulls.

Despite this, many Brits have defended the famous seaside spot on Tripadvisor. They argue that the complaints don't match up with the 'beautiful beach' and say it 'never feels crowded'. This makes it more of a hidden gem, as long as you can put up with the unpredictable British weather.

One visitor gushed: "Great Yarmouth has some beautiful beaches to spend the day on and they are so big you never feel crowded."

Another described the beach as a "lovely clean seafront [that's] full of everything you need for the seaside". They added: "This beautiful and huge beach and its lovely clean seafront is full of everything you need for the seaside. Such lovely gift shops just across the road and full of B&B'S and hotels."

The ice cream parlours, sweet shops and restaurants to be found in the area also impressed a number of visitors. Meanwhile there are plenty of indoor attractions for when the British weather does let you down such as the SEA LIFE Aquarium, National Trust houses, arcades and museums. Meanwhile, Pleasure Beach amusement park with its rides and attractions continues to be hit with families.

One happy visitor wrote: "What a fantastic day out in Great Yarmouth! We visited as a family of five, with three children aged 8, 6 and 4. We also went with a family of four, with children aged 8 and 12 and grandparents. Everyone was entertained for the whole day and this is fantastic value for money!"

"We didn't stop for the whole day with rides suitable for the whole party and not once did anyone ever get bored. Food choice and prices were brilliant. Staff were very helpful. A must visit when in Yarmouth as a family!"

The good news is that there are also plenty of tempting deals to be found. For example on booking.com you can snap up a night at the Easton at Majestic Hotel for a mere £11 - that's only £5.50 each for two adults, and it's a short 450-yard stroll from the beach!
