The year 1993 was a meaningful one in football, with the first Premier League and Champions League trophies handed out, as well as marking the creation of boyband Boyzone.

Why are we telling you this? Well, it's because Chorley FC, who play in the National League North, have taken the step of announcing a collaboration with the Irish hitmakers.

Both parties have enjoyed memorable renaissances in the last decade. Boyzone hit the top 10 in the UK and Ireland with their album 'Thank You and Goodnight', while Chorley scored a giant-killing against Derby County in the FA Cup, in what we can all agree is a comparable achievement.

Discussions between the parties are rumbling on, but Chorley haven't waited until it's all said and done to make the announcement. Whether it ends up being a father and son relationship or something more like that between brothers, the non-league outfit have put out some words confirming the situation.

"Chorley FC are absolutely thrilled to share some truly exciting news that will undoubtedly ignite a wave of enthusiasm throughout Chorley Football Club and beyond," their statement reads. "We have just confirmed that world-renowned, Boyzone, will be joining us for our upcoming home game against Solihull Moors in the Isuzu FA Trophy this weekend!

"This collaboration with Boyzone is part of ongoing discussions that could potentially see them becoming the face of the football club. This is a game-changer that has the potential to bring our town into the limelight like never before, generating a buzz and publicity that will shine a bright light on Chorley and the local area.

"Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our negotiations," they added. "We firmly believe that this partnership with Boyzone has the potential to take Chorley FC to new heights, firmly establishing our town and football club as a force to be reckoned with."

Will Boyzone get Chorley moving to a different beat? Have your say in the comments section

Naturally, Chorley fans are set to ask themselves an obvious question. Will the partnership get us where we belong, or will things fall apart when the going gets tough.

No matter what, we'll be waiting patiently for more updates from the club and the band as they wait to discover whether Chorley fans will start to love them for a reason. One deal alone is unlikely to end up being the key to the club's life in the sixth tier or above, though they may look at the National League - where they spent time in the early 90s - and say 'I'm working my way back to you'.

After some tricky years for Chorley, who have never made the climb into the Football League proper, there might be some hope that love will save the day. Still they know as well as anyone else that they don't have all the time in the world.
