Woman jets off on 7-hour city break cheaper than 'dinner and drinks in London'

A woman has explored a European capital during an incredible speedy day trip.

Lauren Francis said her visit to Stockholm cost a similar amount as" dinner and a few drinks in London". The Londoner bagged herself a cheap ticket from London Stansted to Stockholm Arlanda, forking out just £42 on the return flights.

Once there the 24-year-old wasted no time in getting stuck into the Swedish capital, fitting an impressive amount into the whistle-stop tour. Landing at 11.40am local time, she was on a fast train to the city centre which arrived an hour later, she told Tyla. Her first stop was the Vasa Museum.

The unique museum contains a vast 17th century ship which remains completely intact. The reason why the ill-fated vessel was overloaded on its maiden voyage, meaning it made it just a few hundred metres before sinking to the bottom. After several hundred years of sitting beneath the waves, in 1961 it was brought to the surface and restored. Lauren said the experience of seeing the shop was "stunning".

Next off she raced to Gamla Stan, the city's old town, where she stopped off for a coffee and traditional sweet pastry before heading to the iconic ABBA museum for an hour and a half.

The museum sits close to the Vasa Museum and Skansen, a large open-air museum-come-zoo which also showcases what life and homes were like in Sweden across the centuries. Lauren had no time for such historical immersion however, instead rushing back to the city centre to eat some vegan meatballs for dinner.

"I'd got just enough time to have a look around the local IKEA before I had to get the train back to the airport to get the 9.30pm flight back to London," she said.

In total Lauren spent just 10 hours in the country and seven-and-a-half hours in Stockholm itself. Overall she forked out £146 for the trip, including £23 on food and drink, £34 on museum tickets, £42 on flights and £49 on additional transport.

"I think I would've been able to fill an extra day with another museum and more time walking around but my main goals were to visit the two museums and try some Swedish pastries and meatballs which I managed to do," she noted.

Lauren spent £146 in total for the whole thing; with £23 spent on food and drink, £34 on museum tickets, like airport transfers and public transport around the city. The extreme day-tripper said she could easily have spent the flight money on dinner and a few drinks in London.
