GB News viewers were left shocked by a journalist’s suggestion Prince Harry contributed to King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.

Buckingham Palace released a statement this week announcing the 75-year-old monarch's diagnosis and said he will undergo immediate treatment. The king was last month diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and spent three days in hospital after undergoing surgery. It was during this intervention that a separate issue of concern was noted and subsequently diagnosed as a form of cancer.

Appearing on GB News on Tuesday to discuss the king’s diagnosis, pundit Mike Parry brought up Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, suggesting the Sussexes’ transition away from the royal family and subsequent move across the pond may have contributed to the monarch’s ill health. Parry pondered: “Could the stress of having to sort out the Harry situation over the last two years have contributed to his illness? Because we know that stress does contribute to illness.”

He went on: “Stress can give you heart attacks, stress can give you nervous conditions, and I believe that if you ask top doctors they’ll say yes, it could be responsible for at least enhancing the King’s anxiety and that anxiety in itself might have worked its way physically into his body.”

Parry’s suggestion was quickly rebuffed by the programme’s hosts, who expressed their hope the commentator was “wrong” about “family rifts” being to blame for his recent diagnosis. Meanwhile, shocked viewers were quick to slam Parry’s claims, with one person questioning on X, formerly Twitter, why “morons like [Parry are] allowed to pollute the airwaves and atmosphere?”

Someone else echoed: “What absolute tripe!” Other comments included: “Depravity from GB News @ofcom gutter, gutter programming,” “Ffs. Get a grip [...] this is beyond stupid” and “How desperate are you [to] attack HARRY AND MEGHAN [and] to have someone like Mike Parry come on your station and let him come out with some utter nonsense.”

Harry arrived in London after an overnight flight from the UK following Buckingham Palace's announcement on Monday that the king had been diagnosed with a form of cancer and would step back from public duties for treatment. Charles and Harry are said to have met for around 45 minutes before the king left for his flight to Sandringham.

It's understood there are no plans for Harry to meet his brother, the Prince of Wales, during his visit to London while the Duchess of Sussex is expected to stay in the US with the couple's two young children.
