Prince Harry has arrived back in Britain following his father's cancer diagnosis. Harry, who is largely estranged from the royal family, was seen flying out of LAX shortly after it was announced King Charles is battling the disease.

It is not known how long the Duke will remain in the UK - nor where he will stay. Harry and Meghan were instructed to vacate their Windsor home Frogmore Cottage on King Charles' estate last year, following the publication of his tell-all memoir, Spare.

With Harry left without an official residence in the UK, questions are being asked about where he will be based. We look at some of the most likely locations…

Frogmore Cottage

Harry and Meghan received the cottage as a wedding gift from the Queen - but lived there just six months before announcing their decision to step down as senior royals and relocate to the States.

In June 2023, and following the publication of Spare, they removed all their belongings, having reportedly received an eviction notice from the King.

The last time Prince Harry and Meghan stayed at Frogmore Cottage together was during the summer of 2022; they were in residence there for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The couple celebrated their daughter Lilibet's first birthday at the same time.

It is also understood that Prince Harry stayed at the Windsor-based property for the final time over the course of his High Court trials in London last summer. Perhaps he will again be granted permission to take up temporary residence for the duration of this stay.

Buckingham Palace

Harry might be offered a room at Buckingham Palace following his return to the UK. Palace sources previously told the Mail on Sunday that after the Frogmore eviction, Harry and Meghan could be given Prince Andrew's suite whenever they need it. It was seen as an "olive branch" after the King asked the couple to pack their bags and move out of Frogmore Cottage.

For many years, Andrew retained a suite at the Palace for his stays in London - but it's reported that Charles told him to vacate following a slew of scandals.

Windsor Castle

Harry might take up residence at Windsor Castle; he and Meghan married at the castle's St George's Chapel in 2018. The castle boasts more than 1,000 rooms, and Queen Elizabeth II spent a significant amount of time there during her final years, holding Audiences and receptions in the State Rooms. It was also her residence throughout the Covid pandemic.

However, when Harry was in the UK in September 2023 for the WellChild Awards, he reportedly requested permission to stay at Windsor Castle, but was denied by King Charles.

And, according to the Express, Prince Harry and Meghan first asked to live at Windsor Castle but it was deemed "inappropriate" - and the late Queen "politely but firmly suggested" they live elsewhere.

Clarence House

King Charles returned to Clarence House after beginning his schedule of medical treatment - and it is from here that he will continue his State duties, supported by the Queen and trusted aides.

Right up until his accession to the throne in September 2022, Clarence House held the offices for Camilla and Charles's Royal Household. And while they have multiple homes in the UK, and with Buckingham Palace now their official residence, Clarence House is considered their real home base.

Charles and Camilla moved into Clarence House in 2003, and Prince Harry even had a room in the house; it was his official residence from 2002 until 2012.

However, it seems unlikely Harry will stay there during this latest visit given family tensions and his unfavourable remarks about his step-mother.

Ivy Cottage

Princess Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank, and their two young children currently reside at Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace.

Eugenie and Jack have had a close bond with Harry; he notably arrived with them at Westminster Abbey for King Charles's coronation in May, where they were seen happily chatting and laughing together.

However, according to reports, relations have cooled somewhat recently.

A source previously told the Express that Princess Eugenie is wary of risking her relationship with the Royal Family: "She’s a bit confused over the best way to handle the situation, but it’s got to a point now where she needs to make a choice between the future of her family or maintaining a close bond with someone who is hellbent on tearing it down."
