He's cheeky, chirpy, funny and, above all, a nice guy... which might stop him cracking Hollywood.

That’s the verdict of Jack Whitehall’ s dad Michael – a veteran showbiz agent to A-list British stars Dame Judi Dench and Colin Firth.

Michael, who starred with Jack in Netflix show Travels with My Father, tells the Sunday Mirror: “He has to toughen up. Jack is doing well. He wants to be a movie star.

“The bad thing about Jack is that he is the nicest young man I have ever met in my entire life. He is too nice.

“He is nice to everybody and charming to everybody. He has got a very good agent. They can be horrible – as that is what I used to do.

“I was not so nice. Now Jack is in a similar situation.”

London-born Jack, 34, made his name in stand-up comedy, then as a panellist for six years on TV sports quiz A League of Their Own – alongside Jamie Redknapp, Freddie Flintoff and then host James Corden. Jack showed his acting skills in small screen hits Fresh Meat and Bad Education.

He has since landed roles in US movies Jungle Cruise – with Dwayne Johnson, the world’s highest paid actor – and animation Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Speaking at The Oldie awards, Michael, 82, added: “He is waiting on lots of things. He is waiting on Jungle Cruise 2 and Clifford 2.

“He does not want to play Hamlet. He is not looking for that but he is an actor and wants to do acting. He has been signed by CAA in America and they are very active.

“So I think he is going to achieve that. He does not want to stop doing stand-up though, as he loves doing it.

“He is going to do a big UK tour next year and dates are pencilled in. He does not want to commit to that yet as he really wants to be a movie star.”
