Jamie Laing has revealed he's been left screaming and crying over an invisible health condition.

The star, who found fame on E4's Made In Chelsea, has opened up about his battle with tinnitus and admits he's had to learn to adapt his life due to the condition. But while some may simply view it as a ringing noise, Jamie, 35, has been left in floods of tears and screaming due to the sound which is similar to a dog whistle.

Jamie believes that spending time in nightclubs during his younger days, as well as his anxiety struggles are to blame for the condition.

Taking to Instagram in view of his 1.2 million followers, the businessman opened up, saying: "I haven't heard silence for eight years. The very first time I ever heard tinnitus, I woke up one morning and I got out of bed, and I could hear this ringing noise. This whooshing, ringing noise and I was thinking, looking around, thinking where the hell is this noise coming from.

"Then it suddenly dawned on me that it was inside my own mind, inside my head. That for anyone who has ever experienced tinnitus is a really scary moment." He went on to add: "So I went to an audiologist and the audiologist said, 'Yes, you have tinnitus', and I sat on my sofa and I just thought, 'this can't be happening to me right now'. You cannot imagine how debilitating it is. There's no more silence"

Tinnitus is a sound which often sounds like ringing or buzzing but does not come from an outside source. While it's not clear how tinnitus originates it's often linked to hearing loss, as well as depression and anxiety. Jamie went on to add: "So you think you're ever going to sleep again. You think you're never going to hear anything again apart from this ringing and that's a pretty scary place to be.

"I would spend a lot of time in nightclubs but I never wore anything to protect my ears, ever. I should have done and anyone should be protecting their ears. And second, I think my anxiety caused it to go even more. So I think mine was a combination of the two. So my tinnitus sounds like a dog whistle but with a whooshing noise surrounding it as well."

Jamie explained that it "takes a lot" to make him cry but while filming Hunted, he became so overwhelmed by his tinnitus that he couldn't hear what people were saying to him. "It was so loud, I was like, well this is the moment. This is the moment where tinnitus is going to take over. You want to scream. You want to literally rip your ears off."

The star previously stated that one day he woke up and all he could hear was a high-pitched noise and went around his home searching for it. The NHS claims that tinnitus is not usually something serious and it may ease over time, but those suffering are encouraged to seek advice from their GP.
