Gary Barlow risks enraging Australia as he confuses Home & Away with Neighbours
Gary Barlow almost caused a diplomatic incident as he confused Home and Away with Neighbours live on air in Australia.
The Take That star had an awkward row with radio star Kate Ritchie on her Nova's Fitzy & Wippa show to discuss the pop group's upcoming tour. Kate Ritchie, who starred on Home and Away from almost 20 years, asked the singer if he ever watched the legendary Aussie soap back home.
He told her: "Holly Valance and Terence Donovan were both on Home and Away, right?" as the stunned host, 45, quickly set him straight. He didn't stop there and went on to say that in the UK, the rival show is number one: "I think England was the biggest country for Neighbours and Home and Away. We loved Neighbours, Kylie, come on!"
K ate barked back: "That's OK, Robbie Williams was my favourite." But thankfully it all ended peacefully as the guest and former actress hugged it out as she wished him well with his shows in the country later this year after making the exciting announcement that the band were coming over.
But Gary may not have increased his chances of shifting This Life Tour tickets after saying he was bringing the show to Australia later this year alongside supporting acts Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Ricki-Lee Coulter. Take That will be performing in Perth in October, followed by gigs in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland in November.
Inside multi-millionaire plumber Charlie Mullins' penthouse flatOne former member who won't be taking part is Robbie Williams. Reflecting on this time in the recent four-part documentary series on Netflix, he discussed his time in the group and his relationship with Gary. Outspoken Robbie certainly didn’t hold back when it came to his anger towards him, labelling him a “clueless w****r” and saying the group “had all the creativity of mentally unstable morons”.
”When I turned about 19 I started to have a long, hard think about what was happening. Too many interviews, too many performances, so many countries to visit and then repeat it," he said. "Take That’s fandom was obsessive. It was intense! On top of that there was an assurance about Gaz (Gary Barlow) and his ability mixed with a coldness. And it seemed like there was one person being managed in Take That, and it was Gary Barlow.
"It was all geared around him and as a young person, I would’ve been jealous of that. I suppose a lot of me resented him." His resentment of Gary might have been eating him up inside, but it also motivated Robbie to make a success of his solo career. “I wanted to crush him. I wanted to crush the memory of the band and I didn’t let go. You know, even when he was down, I didn’t let go,” he admitted.
