Coronation Street airs worrying scenes next week on the ITV soap, as Simon Barlow leaves another character fighting for their life.

The Weatherfield resident, who is reportedly leaving the show later this year, continues to spiral after his dad Peter Barlow's exit from the street. As Simon continues to drink heavily to block out his struggles, events result in him being involved in a car crash and another resident is badly injured.

Sam Blakeman, 12, is rushed to hospital a day after the crash following some odd behaviour. After sustaining a missed injury, the character ends up collapsing and is in a bad way.

It all kicks off when Simon fails to consider how much alcohol he has consumed, and when Sam's dad Nick Tilsley asks him to drive Sam to his chess competition he agrees. Hours after his booze session, Simon is still well over the limit while driving and he loses control of the car.

In a panic, Simon orders Sam out of the car and tells him to run after crashing into a road sign. He later tells his stepmum Leanne Battersby about the crash, and refuses to call the police.

It's then that she finds out about the alcohol, leaving her horrified. It seems she covers this up and tells Nick there was a brake fault, but things take a turn when Sam begins to act strangely.

His behaviour sparks concern, and then the character collapses and is rushed to hospital. The doctors are told about the car accident, and Nick finally learns from partner Leanne that the brakes were not to blame for the accident.

As Simon's crime and his drinking come to light, the guilty character decides to take responsibility for his actions. Nick ends up kicking him out, not wanting him near his son - leaving Leanne in a difficult position.

After sleeping outside all night, Leanne finds him and Simon opens up to her about his struggles. Simon admits to Nick, Leanne and Toyah that he’s been drinking too much and he intends to change - but will it be enough to fix things with Nick?
