Killer Mike was publicly cuffed as police detained him at the 66th Grammy Awards.

The star spent the earlier half of the festivities sweeping the awards, winning in all categories he nominated for including Best Rap Album. By the time he made it inside the Crypto.com Arena, though, it didn't take long for the cops to catch up to him.

A source told reporters on the scene that it wasn't anything major at the time. Killer Mike, himself, echoes the casual tone of the incident.

He told Big Tigger Morning Show on Monday: "We hit a speed bump, and then we head back to the party."

The Los Angeles Police Department tweeted today: "On Sunday February 4th just after 4pm a male adult was detained & handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court. The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to LAPD Central Division. The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Render and booked for Misdemeanor Battery 243(A) PC, and is in the process of being released."

Mike was spotted in handcuffs, surrounded by officials and members of his team. As he was drug throughout the arena's hallways and away from view, someone yelled out "Free Mike," but he remained detained. Eventually, the CEO of the Grammys, Harvey Mason Jr., went to check up on the situation. After briefly speaking with those involved, he left Mike to be detained and headed backstage as showtime approached.

The LAPD spokesperson told reporters on the scene at the time of the incident: “At around 4 pm, an individual was detained at [Crypto.com Arena] for a physical altercation. The individual is currently being questioned. I cannot confirm identity of the individual until person is charged. The investigation is ongoing."

After finishing the booking process, police did release Mike. It does not seem like he was able to return to the award show, but he had already claimed his trophies and been given his honours.

Fans weren't happy with how the situation played out. One wrote: "Yall really waited in the arena to arrest that man immediately after winning his Grammy. Yall are a** for that."

Another added: "Seriously??? Going to arrest a man on his Grammy win night? You all are jokes. Really messed up. Typical. Although we should be grateful you all didn't shoot him, right?"
