The Cat is truly among the pigeons - as This Morning fans are very much divided over the show's new hosts.

While some have touted Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard as the perfect 'dream team' to permanently replace Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, others aren't so sure - with many preferring the current format of rotating presenters; Alison Hammond, Dermot O'Leary, Josie Gibson, Craig Doyle and Rylan Clark.

Thousands of you answered our poll Are Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard a good choice for This Morning?, with the results split almost exactly down the middle. While 881 said yes, they would make great hosts, 910 said they would not.

ITV is planning to announce Cat, 47, and Ben, 49, as their new star pairing next month with both set to follow in the footsteps of Holly and Phil, who hosted the show from Monday to Thursday during term-time, and took the summer months off. Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond look set to continue as the show’s regular Friday and school holiday presenters. Our original story attracted many comments. Here's just a sample of them:

'Great choice. Love Cat and Ben. Good luck to both of them'

Caznett: "Yes Ben and Cat are a good combination for presenting This Morning".

RitaBishop: "Great news, Cat is the best choice. Not sure about Ben."

Lozz06: "I still will not watch, but I am glad that current part-time presenters were not given the positions."

Minniedot: "Glad that it’s Cat - would’ve preferred Rylan to Ben though."

TheLecturer: "Great choice. Love Cat and Ben. Good luck to both of them."

Rozemay: "I like Cat Deeley although I’ve never seen her present to an adult-based audience. Love Ben Shephard. Let’s see how they are together."

Happinesd: "I love Ben Shephard, think he's great at his job and seems a genuinely nice bloke. Not sure about Cat tho, have to see."

Unknowed: "(They) should be good together".

'No personalities either of them!'

Jaj0422: "Last time Ben presented This Morning he looked totally bored during some of the segments. I like the format of having different presenters they have at the moment."

Jeanie65: "Terrible choice. I can’t stand either of them. What’s wrong with the format now where they rotate the presenters?"

Shelley99: "Please not Cat. She’s just not right for it, too smug. I love the rotating of the presenters, so if there’s someone you don’t like then it’s only a few days to avoid. I think Craig Doyle is one of the best. He’s just so natural and funny."

Magsmc: "Why didn’t they leave it as it was? It’s nice to see different people on there. Well it’s going to be boring now."

Pruppy: "Nooo, won’t be watching now. Bring back Josie and Dermot."

Scrap44: "Alison, Rylan and Josie must be steaming. They have propped the show up for months and done a great job. This is a mistake, ITV. People don't want Ben and Cat."

Fidgetyfingers: "Why on earth have they chosen Deeley - the last time she presented the show she was talking over people and interrupting!"

Northerndoglover: "No personalities either of them!"

Lizzie62: "Well that’s me not watching again. Cat Deeley is the worst of all the ones they could have chosen. I love Rochelle, she’s a good replacement. Enjoyed watching this week with her and Rylan."

Emily2711: "Good job I don’t like This Morning as the new presenters would definitely make me stop watching it!!"

Shephard will be a huge loss for Good Morning Britain

There's no doubt Shephard will be a huge loss for Good Morning Britain, where he regularly presents alongside former GMTV sidekick Kate Garraway, plus Susanna Reid and Ranvir Singh.

Ben is one of ITV's most beloved presenters. His popularity stems from extensive hosting roles on GMTV and GMB, with his broadcasting journey starting on Channel 4 with The Bigger Breakfast. Alongside these, Ben is the charismatic face of the game show Tipping Point. Over the years, he has also hosted various other series such as Ninja Warrior, Xtra Factor, and What's Cooking? Ben shares his life with wife Annie and their two teenage sons.

Hailing from West Bromwich in the West Midlands, former model Deeley has been the face of So You Think You Can Dance since 2006. The ongoing 17th season is expected to be her final stint with the show. In the previous year, Cat played a role in temporarily filling the void left by Willoughby after her departure in October.

Schofield, 61, left This Morning under a cloud in May after admitting to an affair with a younger colleague which he had repeatedly denied. The lies had caused weeks of tension with former pal Holly. She was expected to stay on but then quit a few months later following threats made to her family. Holly, 42, has since returned to Dancing on Ice, which she now presents alongside Stephen Mulhern.
