Strictly's Amy Dowden says 'anxiety only gets worse' during hospital update

Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden has shared that she felt "anxious" as she went back to the hospital over the weekend.

The 33 year old dancer, who told everyone in May that she had an aggressive type of breast cancer, is now getting more treatment after beating the first round. Amy updated her fans saying she was at the hospital for an MRI scan and said: "I know it's been a while hasn't it since I've spoken to you lot."

"I've got to my hospital appointment early so I thought I'd come on. You're probably thinking, 'That's strange, a hospital appointment on a Sunday?' but I've got an MRI scan." The inspiring star went on to praise the NHS for offering scans every day of the week and hoped this would be her last one for a bit, as admitted visiting a hospital on a Sunday has become normal to her.

After taking a picture in her hospital clothes, she wrote: "It doesn't matter how many times you have tests you never get used to it and I feel your anxiety only gets worse.Smile on my face but deep down just get this over with!" Amy also mentioned that her hair is growing back after chemotherapy.

The dancer confessed she was "happy" with the progress of her hair growth after noticing how much it had changed since her treatments. She cheerfully shared a selfie showing off this milestone, as she quipped to her fans: "It's been a little while so I thought I'd show you my hair growth."

She went on to add: "Makes me happy to see the difference and looking back. It's coming." The Strictly star often updates her followers about her health journey. After a round of chemotherapy, Amy faced complications as she developed an infection that led to septic shock. To make matters worse, doctors discovered a blood clot on her lung. A fractured foot shortly after her treatments concluded meant she had to sit out from most of the latest series of Strictly.

However, Amy delighted fans when she made a surprise return to the BBC dancefloor in December, with viewers in tears as they watched the brave star dance during the series finale amid her breast cancer treatment. Hours before her surprise cameo last year, Amy took to social media to wish all the finalists good luck and share some backstage snaps with her fans. "Happy finals day to these absolute superstars," the Welsh star captioned a snap of Ellie Leech, Bobby Brazier and Layton Williams with their respective dance partners on her Instagram Stories.

"That Amy Dowden reveal was a MOMENT #strictly," one Strictly viewer declared on Twitter (X) as the 2023 Strictly final aired, with another adding: "I know it wasn't in quite the way she planned but Amy's return to the ballroom has to be one of the most joyous and beautiful moments of #Strictly 2023 #SCD."

Another emotional fan gushed: "Amy made it, she danced in the final looking stunning and so so happy and I may never stop crying #Strictly." Many Strictly fans were in tears watching Amy's special moment, with one declaring on Twitter: "Did I just scream and burst into tears when I saw Amy? YEP."
