February 10 marks the Chinese New Year celebrations, and the start of the Year of the Dragon. The fifth of the 12-year cycle of animals in the Chinese zodiac, this is a powerful symbol which represents honour, success, and luck.

According to ancient mythology, the dragon's placement in the order of the zodiac signs was determined after each of the 12 animals took part in a race across a river. Despite being able to fly, the Dragon finished fifth, much to the bewilderment of the Jade Emperor, who asked why it didn't come first.

In response, the kindhearted Dragon explained that it had paused to bring rain to a village, and had also stopped to help the Rabbit make the river crossing by blowing onto the log it was clinging to. Pleased by the Dragon's caring approach, the emperor named it as the fifth animal in the zodiac.

Those born in the Year of the Dragon, which was last celebrated in 2012, are known to possess several excellent qualities, including intelligence, confidence, and power.

In a recent interview with the Daily Express, psychic and astrologer to the stars Inbaal Honigman opened up about the meaning of the Chinese Zodiac 2024, including the three animal signs that should expect a little luck this year.

Dragon (people born in 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000)

According to Inbaal, those born under the Dragon sign will have a 'wonderful year in 2024', given that 'everything and everyone is aligned to their sign'. She explained: "Their big personality and leadership qualities will not seem out of the ordinary. Their softer qualities of wisdom and benevolence will be appreciated and not taken advantage of. This is a good year for Dragons to climb the ladder and apply for bigger and bolder positions."

Rat (people born in 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996)

As explained by Inbaal, those born under this sign are known to be 'hardworking and quick-witted', but can find themselves at a disadvantage on account of their 'gentle nature'. It looks like this won't be the case this year, however, with plenty of luck blowing their way. Inbaal revealed: "They don't believe in shortcuts and in doing things the easy way, and this year will put them in the right place at the right time so that they make friends with people in positions of power and influence."

Monkey (people born in 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004)

'Cheeky' individuals born during a Monkey year are known to be 'smart, playful and attractive', and it's believed 'their natural playfulness fits well with the powerful energy of the Dragon year'. According to Inbaal: "Their loud laughter will be welcomed by all. A monkey's dream is to be able to turn their hobby into a career, and this year could bring their perfect opportunity."
