Claire Sweeney has suffered two brutal injuries which will affect her planned Dancing On Ice routine.

Tonight, the Coronation Street star, 52, was planning to belt out Shirley Bassey hit Hey big Spender as part of a burlesque-inpsired performance. However, new reports claim that she suffered a horror fall during rehearsals, limiting what she will be able to do on the show tonight.

According to the Mail Online, Claire injured her ribs and dislocated her shoulder as she practised some daring spins with her pro-partner, Colin Grafton, 32, after the judges told her they wanted to see more speed and daring. The unexpected set-back has meant the pair have needed to switch up their routine to accomodate her restricted movements and pain levels.

The source said: "She performed the move twice and was perfect - all of a sudden, she hit the ice. It completely blindsided her. Medics have popped her shoulder back in and she’s icing in between rehearsals and taking painkillers as advised.

"She’s still in a lot of pain and they’ve had to change the routine to protect her shoulder. The routine change is completely last minute, so she’s having to learn new moves and of course her confidence has been knocked by the injury."

Claire, who found fame as Lyndsey Corkill on Brookside, joined Corrie last year as Cassie Plummer, the troubled drug addict mum of Tyrone Dobbs. She's been juggling filming commitments with training for DOI, and told the Mirror that sometimes her busy schedule leaves her wondering what she's doing that day.

She said: "I'm juggling so much. I’ll be on the way to work wondering if I’m going to the Rovers or the rink!”

Claire got the Brookside role on her 20th birthday and got her Corrie role on her 52nd. The coincidence makes her smile – especially when she thinks of everything she has achieved in the years in between.

She released a top 20 album in 2002, appeared on Strictly in 2004 and worked on the West End stage. She became so famous that Michael Aspel presented her with the Big Red Book on This is Your Life.

“I’ve been very lucky over the years,” she says. “If TV went quiet, I’ve done a lot of musical theatre, and I’ve also invested in property, which has helped.

“But at 52 to suddenly get Coronation Street and now Dancing on Ice...

“If you told me a year ago I’d be doing these two jobs, I wouldn’t have believed you! I get a bit tired but how brilliant is it!”

Dancing on Ice, tonight, ITV, 6.20pm. Coronation Street, ITV, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 8pm.
