Call The Midwife stars Helen George and Olly Rix looked close as they celebrated her latest stage performance together with friends.

Helen is currently starring in a stage production of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The King and I at London’s Dominion Theatre. The 39-year-old actress is playing lead role Anna Leonowens opposite 51-year-old actor Darren Lee who is playing the titular king.

Helen is known for playing Trixie Franklin on the BBC’s long-running drama Call The Midwife alongside 36-year-old Olly - who plays Matthew Aylward. Helen and Olly, who play on-screen lovers in the BBC show, celebrated together at a post-show after-party on Wednesday in London.

The pair are said to have looked close - and both had recently split from their respective partners, with Helen recently splitting from 40-year-old Jack Ashton who also starred in Call The Midwife and with whom she shares two children.

An source told The Sun - who have published grainy pictures of the duo together at the party: “Helen made a beeline for Olly as she arrived at the afterparty. The pair spent all evening together with Olly putting his hand on her back as she chatted to her fellow cast members.

"At one point, two people switched seats on a sofa so Olly and Helen could sit next to each other. He was clearly very protective of Helen as he put his hand around the back of her chair. Helen wanted to stay out with her girls so Olly hugged her and gave her a kiss on the cheek before he left.”

A string of other Call The Midwife stars attended the late-night after party at the Arcade Food Hall and Bar - with Jenny Agutter, who plays Sister Julienne, Megan Cusack, who stars as Ann ‘Nancy’ Corrigan, and Annabelle Apsion, who plays Councillor Violet Buckle, all present. Images showed Helen looking elegant in a lace dress and Olly looking suave in a suit and open shirt.

Around the time of Helen and Jack’s split, Olly parted ways with his make-up artist girlfriend Natasha Fagri - who he had dated for seven years. A TV source told the Sun on Sunday: “It’s been a tricky year for both Helen and Olly. They have been spending a lot of time together on set, walking their dogs together and chatting a lot."

Call The Midwife fans will soon wave goodbye to both Helen and Olly as their characters are being written out of the show. The 2023 season finale saw their characters swap vows - but ended on a cliffhanger with Helen’s character, Trixie, deciding to leave. It is reported that Olly’s character, Matthew, will also leave the series.

In February last year, it was reported that Call The Midwife was renewed for two more seasons - meaning the show will continue until at least 2025. Show creator Heidi Thomas hinted the new episodes will see the period drama shift decades from the 1960s. She told the BBC: "We are a family behind the scenes, on the screen, and in front of the telly, and I'm thrilled that we're all heading into the 1970s together."
