Nando's is no longer good value for money, said one customer

Fast-food fans are calling fowl over big price increases at Nando’s.

Its once pocket-friendly staple of a quarter chicken with two sides costs around a third more than two years ago – £10.75 compared with £8.25.

And other dishes at the peri-peri chain have risen by up to 11% in a year, nearly treble the current inflation rate. They include the Fino Pitta and Sunset Burger, both with a side, which now cost £13.

The chain’s popular veggie choice of a mushroom and halloumi pizza with a side has also risen by the same amount, to £12.25. And the family-friendly full platter is now £25.75 – 7% more than last year.

One fed-up diner, mum-of-two Sammy Robinson, 48, from West Bromwich, West Midlands, said: “The prices just keep soaring up so much we no longer find Nando’s good value for money for a family meal out.” Independent consumer champion Martyn James added: “A ‘cheeky Nando’s’ is going to become less frequent.”

The increases come despite the firm’s worldwide revenue leaping to more than £1.27billion last February compared with £1.06bn a year earlier.

Nando’s said: “As with many businesses, we’re impacted by rises in the cost of ingredients and in running our restaurants, meaning that while some prices have remained the same, some have had to change.

“We continue to work hard to absorb costs wherever we can.”
